Wild & Outrageous

We have a new line of adorable little framed prints that make fabulous girlfriend gifts! The print that is pictured here says "We don't have to do anything wild and outrageous - let's just look like we could!" Truly words to live, and dress, by. This afternoon one of our customers, Shirley, came in and was buying prizes for a party she was giving. We were asking her about the party and she shared with us that she is throwing herself a 60th birthday party! The guest list was over 100 people and she has all kinds of entertainment and games lined up. It sounds like she's lived a really fascinating life and she wants to celebrate this milestone in her life surrounded by friends and family. What a cool thing to do!

We received a new Tarina shipment this week. After our jewelry sale, we were really low on some of our favorite styles. These Swarovski Crystal Stud Earrings add sparkle to any outfit. Every time I wear these, I get comments - and I wear them a lot as I love all of the different colors they come in! To make room for the new items, we added a couple of Tarina pieces to the sale rack, so you may want to hurry in to see what's on sale!

The girls over at Unleashed Pawsabilities ordered a stroller for Snickers today. I have to keep him off his leg as much as possible until the surgery and even though I'm strong - it's tough carrying 34 pounds of dog down the street. I'm sure there will be an interesting period of adjustment for him - we'll be sure to have the camera handy.

We want MOR!!!

We're so excited to have received the Fruits of Cornucopia bath and body collection by Mor Cosmetics. "Redolent overtures of Blackcurrent, Pomegranate and Plum are peppered with Mint-Spice and wrapped in Leaf of Fig, Violet and Lantana Bloom. Cut down with citrus fresh Vetiver and framed by a woody dry down of Teak and Vanilla-Oak." Translation - this stuff smells AMAZING!!!! The packaging on the collection is so pretty, you'll want to display the box as well as the bottle/jar/soap. I especially love the black soap in this collection - it seems so decadent!

Another new arrival are these adorable Signature Frames. A wonderful birthday gift for little or big girls. All the party-goers can sign the frame then you add a picture from the party, and voila - a wonderful memory! It just occurred to me what a perfect gift this will be for the Captain's mom. She's having a slumber party on Friday night and Danielle and I will be heading down to Olympia Friday night to attend. I haven't been to a slumber party with a bunch of girls for a long, long time, so I'm really excited!!

Update on the Snick dog. After one night of seeing him trying to limp around, I've decided that the surgery is a must. They examined him again today and it's definitely a torn ACL in his right knee. In researching all of my options, I found that Washington State University has an amazing Veterinary Teaching Hospital. I called them and he's scheduled to have surgery on Thursday, March 13th. From now until then, I'm just trying to keep him quiet - not an easy job! If you're in the neighborhood, come by and give him a little TLC - he needs it

Devil Davids and Shiny Horses

I had a first at Curtsyland today....I wrapped a baby onesie with a positive pregnancy stick ;-) The customer has a sister moving to London and just found out she is preggers. To tell her sister the exciting news.....she bought our Union Jack onesie and handed over the pee stick! Very cute....we will be expecting pics of the little one looking dapper in front of Big Ben while visiting his aunt!

We received the most kick-ass coin banks in today from the same company that makes the wonderful flocked frameboxes that Curtsy Mama told you about previously. My fav is the Devil David....it is a flocked porcelain bank of Michelangelo's David with evil horns and tail, and comes in black and red. Other bank styles include a mustard yellow regal-looking lion (which I am particularly fond of being a Leo), and a fuchsia skull. All very stylish ways to stash and save your dough.

Also from the same company.....fantastical horse jewelry holders! These perfect little equestrian plaques come in shiny silver or pretty pink and can be used simply for decoration, or you can hang your precious jewels on them.

If it's Not One Thing, it's Your Dog...Part 2

Short blog tonight. Snickers played with his pal Sampson on Saturday night while my pal Jane and I went to see "Mame" at the Fifth. When I picked him up, he was limping. I took the poor old guy to the vet today, and they think he has a torn ACL (a ligament in his knee). He doesn't seem to be in horrible pain, but he's not doing a great job of getting around. He can't climb the stairs to my apartment, so I have to carry him up to the 3rd floor. Thank God I lift weights every day. The vet is recommending surgery, but it's a really expensive proposition, especially considering that we just finished up $1,000 worth of dental surgery. Right now we're just going to keep him quiet and wait and see how he does without the surgery. Instead of writing anymore tonight, I'm going to give him a little extra TLC.

Metal Morphosis

Beautiful weekend! Curtsy Mama and I both got to enjoy an extra day off this week. I took yesterday off as the Captain finally returned home late Friday night after being in Wisconsin for two weeks. He is quite sick with the flu though...so it was a lazy Saturday. Curtsy Mama is off today as her friend is in town for the weekend...they saw Mame last night and went to the aquarium today.

We received lots of new goodies in from Metal Morphosis, who makes wonderful handcrafted items in 100% pewter and sterling silver. They have a new collection - Trend for Men - which includes great gift items for those hard-to-buy-for boys. My favorite item we got are the cocktail pick holders with matching cocktail picks. We have them in three styles.....dice with poker chip picks....castle with dragon flag picks....and skull with skeleton hand picks. Each holder comes as a set with four picks....we also received packs of extra picks you can buy to add to the holder.

In addition to the fabulous cocktail picks....shot glasses with pewter plaques on them. My favorite reads "What whiskey will not cure, there is no cure." The thought of whiskey actually makes me quite sick still. One of my daily gifts from the Captain while he was away was a bottle of Fireball Whiskey (if we have never let you know....Curtsy Mama and I are OBSESSED with atomic fireball candies). I don't have much of a taste for hard liquor, but the Captain swore it tasted exactly like fireball juice. I tried a cap-full before going to bed....then woke up in the middle of the night sick as a dog. That was actually the beginning of the food poisoning, but at the time I really thought it was the CAP-FULL of whiskey that had done this to me ;-) The Fireball Whiskey does taste like fireball juice, but it will be a LONG time before I feel like trying it again. Other styles of the shot glasses include "Take me drunk, I'm home" and a pic of a mud flap girl.

Roy G Biv

Danielle was a busy little Curtsy Bee today putting out all the spring and Easter goodies. Her eye for merchandising always amazes me - she makes everything look so great, it makes me fall in love with the new stuff all over again. This time of year we get a lot of customers looking for little gifts to stick in an Easter Basket. We found these awesome Egg Lights that will fascinate children of all ages. Turn it on and the egg is an ever changing rainbow of colors. Well, Danielle and I went back and forth all day today about her display. As it's located right at the front of the store, there's quite a bit of light that hits it and make it hard to see the egg changing colors, unless you stare at it for a minute. We finally decided that some type of signage was needed. Danielle has a tendency to speak very softly and after too many years of loud rock and roll, working on construction sites and then around airplanes, my hearing is not the best. She kept telling me what she wanted on the sign, and I couldn't understand what she was saying! "Tell me again" - "I still didn't understand" "SAY IT SLOWER!". Finally she made me understand that what she wanted on the sign was Roy G. Biv....The Egg. Excuse me, Roy G. Biv? Who the hell is Roy G. Biv? Sorry - I had to Google it and apparently everybody, including Wikipedia knows Roy. I graduated from high school and college and read a lot, but there has apparently been a serious gap in my education. Roy G. Biv is the mnemonic for the sequence of hues in a rainbow.....oh yeah - now the sign makes perfect sense!

I picked up our spring order from Rosanna's yesterday and spent the afternoon un-boxing and drooling over everything. I absolutely love the fact that Rosanna's is a local company and I have to tell you, everything from the office staff, to the warehouse guys, to how the products come packaged is first class! One of the new collections we received is the I'd Love to Have set of dessert plates and mugs. " A shimmery dress that's short and flirty with dressy slip-ons? A silk and chiffon dress that's soft and girly and a pair of peep toe shoes?" These sentiments make this the perfect thing to put out when it's girl's night!

Today is the first day since the onset of food poisoning last Monday morning that I have finally felt back to normal and I AM SOOOOOO HAPPY! I would never wish that on my worst enemy (well, maybe one guy name Dan L, but nobody else)!

Punk Rock Babies

We are getting spring fever at Curtsyland! I love that the days are starting to get longer and a bit warmer. All of the Valentine's Day goodies are gone and I have started to put out Easter. More on all that tomorrow.....spring also means it is baby season! It seems everyone is poppin out little humans this time of year....we Curtsy Girls work extra hard to seek out the hottest baby shower gifts and bring them to you just in time.

One of our favorite new baby shower gifts is the Skully Jars from Six Bunnies. These four piece gift sets include a tee, onesie, bib and beanie featuring a skull print on white cotton, and come in pink, black, and blue. And if the skull adorned clothing isn't punk rock enough for your little one.....now you can imagine what your baby would look like covered in tattoos! I know.....just what every new parent dreams of ;-) This adorable tattoo body suit, also from Six Bunnies, features all the best old school tattoo designs on the front and back.

We are stocked back up on our fabulous pacifiers....these are perfect to top any baby present....we tie one on the ribbon of almost every baby gift we wrap! We received a few new expressions including Born 2 $hop, Mute Button and Rock Star. This company also started doing them in lots of different colors...we previously just had them in classic pink, blue and white.....and they are now doing some in glitter filled plastic!!! I know.....I about died ;-)

New Books

Curtsy Mama and I are both recovering from food poisoning....ughhh!! We got bad shrimp at a Lynnwood mexican restaurant on Saturday night. It hit me Sunday night. My Mom stopped by on her way to Curtsyland Monday morning to give me a get well package.....then as soon as she got to work she started to feel it too. Luckily our wonderful SarahRose was able to come work the rest of the day.

So....quick update on new goodies as I am still feeling quite ill. We recieved a big order of books in yesterday. Sure to be a fav with our gentlemen visitors...(or the ladies looking to buy for said gentlemen) is Stacked Decks: The Art and History of Erotic Playing Cards. It features images of hundreds of erotic playing cards from 1807 to the present day, all illustrated with nude or seminude models, burlesque singers, flappers, 1950s pinup girls, and international superstars. We have a deck of pin-up girl playing cards from F.G. & Co that will perfectly top this gift!

Another one for the card playing enthusiast....Casino Cofidential: A Pit Boss's Guide to Beating the House. The review of this one reads: "In Casino Confidential, a licensed pit boss reveals how casinos stack the odds in their favor and how you can improve your own chances of winning. You'll discover tricks and traps used to disorient players (there's a reason you won't find any 90-degree angles in modern Las Vegas casinos) as well as essential strategies of blackjack, poker, roulette, craps, baccarat, pai gow, slot machines, and video poker. Plus you'll learn why many of the most popular gambling systems (like card counting) are barely worth the effort. Casino Confidential is filled with information that Las Vegas doesn't want you to know." Sounds like a must before your next Vegas vacay!

And one more exciting addition in Curtsyland....The Crimes of Dr. Watson: An Interactive Sherlock Holmes Mystery. You the reader must sift through the clues and try to solve this thrilling whodunit. Once you believe you've identified the culprit....slice open the final signature of the book (sealed at the printer) to read the remainder of the story. Fun!

Give Someone a Lift!

In these days of e-mail and text messages, sending cards and letters through the mail is becoming a thing of the past. I had a couple of rough days this past week - nothing I want to bore you with, but I was feeling a little blue. On Friday, the mailman came and in the midst of the catalogs and bills was a card addressed to me. It was from a friend who knew I was struggling to smile. What a difference this simple gesture made! The mere fact that she had taken the time to pick out a card, write a few sentences to let me know she cared, meant the world to me. It made me remember that with your friends and family you can get through whatever life throws in your face. Be that someone this week!! Buy a card, write a few lines, spend the big bucks on a stamp. You could turn someone's day around like my friend Megan turned mine around! The card shown above is one of my favorites - Antoinette from the card company Papaya. The words on the front say "Every Woman is a Rebel" - yeah baby!

Look at this little cutie! Piper and her mom came into the store yesterday and mom fell in love with one of our new baby Balerina Onesies. Even though this is supposed to be a dress for 0-3 months, Piper's fashion forward mom figured out that it made a hip toddler top with jeans! You can see Piper asking Snicker's his opinion on the outfit - what you can't see is when he gave it 2 paws up!

In the Pink

Seems like we've gotten a lot of girly, pink items in the store this week. No surprize there, we do love girly, glitzy and pink! The Baby Flower Tutu just arrived and we're smitten!! A scrumptious, glittery flower decorates the front of each skirt. They come in 4 yummy colors and 2 sizes and are sure to be the star of any baby shower. These snippets of tulle took me back to when Danielle was 4 and I started her in ballet - something to help her overcome her mother's lack of coordination and grace. In the spring, it was time for "dance pictures" and while attempting to curl her hair, I burned her with the curling iron! Not a big burn, not a first degree job or anything, just a little burn. God, what a bad mommy! She never let me touch her hair again........however since her hair is so thick and takes forever to dry, I think I came out on the winning end of that deal :)

Who doesn't want to be Princess for a Day? Make sure that all the world knows it's someone's special day with our new tiara. Even though these are targeted for the junior set, I have a feeling we'll be seeing these pop up on the heads of college and high school cuties all over the city.

High IntenCity

Hope you all had a fabulous Valentine's Day!!! The UPS man was very sweet to us yesterday....our Valentine from him was the arrival of the CUTEST charm bracelet collection by High Intencity. We have seven different styles of bracelets to choose from.....a chain link that comes in silver, pink, purple, or blue...a jeweled crown bracelet....a large crystal stone bracelet....or a jeweled flower bracelet. Each has oodles of links to load it up with their adorable charms. All of the charms are amazingly detailed...a bunch of them even have little moving parts. One of my favorites is a tiny gold fortune cookie....you pull a little jewel to open it and your "LUCK" fortune is revealed! Another one is a tiny pink treasure chest adorned with a crown...you pull it open to find a chest full of jewels.

The High Intencity charms also include licensed charms.....Hello Kitty and Mr Men Little Miss. The Hello Kitty charms are adorable....(of course!)...sure to be a popular one has our favorite feline as a pirate. We also have one that has Hello Kitty cruisin' in a pink convertible, and the wheels actually turn!

I adore the Mr Men Little Miss charms....I loved that book series growing up. You can pick any or all of the traits that suit you or the little miss in your life.....be it Miss Curious, Miss Trouble, Miss Giggles, Miss Sunshine, Miss Chatterbox, etc...too cute!

Girlfriends!

Just got back from seeing a sneak preview of Step It Up 2 with SarahRose & Tara...aww sugar sugar ;-) While I am terribly sad and missing the Captain during his stay in freezing cold Wisconsin....it's always fun to have girl time!! I had a girl in the store today shopping for panties.....her and her girlfriends have a Panty Party every year soon after Valentine's day. She explained they all bring a pair of pretty panties and exchange them similar to a white elephant. No matter if some of them are single that year, or taken but maybe have a boy toy who neglected to treat her to the unmentionables....not a Valentine's Day goes by without them all recieving a pair of panties. Love it!

So the Captain and I were totally on the same wavelength while preparing to be apart for Valentine's Day. We both put together little presents for the other to open every night while he is away....great minds think alike. So far I have recieved fabulous presents everyday....I'm afraid his aren't as exciting.....lots of chocolate and little bottles of alcohol.....it's like minus 20 there....poor boy is cold. Tonight he left me with a stack of scratcher lottery tickets to pass the time without him...and I am totally feeling lucky....will let you know if I am a big winner ;-)

Our Easter goodies have begun to arrive....I am starting to get very excited about Peter Cotton Tail coming to town. We will certainly tell you all about everything soon....you can bet most of these items are sparkly/sequin-y/fuzzy and very fabulous. In the meantime....the lovely LOVEiday is almost upon us! Don't forget to take advantage of the jewelry and lingerie sale before it's over.....mention the blog and we will bump it up to 25% off!

Long Day

First, for all of our dedicated blog readers, mention the blog when you come in this week and we'll bump up the current 20% discount on all jewlery and lingerie to 25%! This sale and offer ends on Valentine's Day, so don't procrastinate.

Snickers had to be at Ravenna Animal Hospital this morning by 7:30 for his scheduled dental surgery. With no breakfast and no water, he was a little grumpy. Since their office is right around the corner from the store, I started work at 7:45 this morning. Luckily, I'm a morning person, so by 10, I was on fire!! The office called to get my permission to pull a second tooth that was broken. Eek! Honestly, I don't feed him rocks and certainly don't knock him around so what's up with that? By 11:30 they called to say that he was out of surgery, in recovery and acting like a typical Beagle (howling, howling, howling) and is there any way I could come and pick him up now instead of the scheduled 5:45PM? Sorry, I'm at the store alone and really, doesn't a howling Beagle go much better in a vet's office than in Curtsyland? Yeah, I thought so too! When I picked up the poor pitiful thing at the appointed time tonight, they told me they finally had to sedate him again, because he just wouldn't quit vocalizing his extreme displeasure. All in all, I think it's safe to say that this wasn't his favorite day. I, on the other hand, got a hell of a lot done :).

I had a pleasant surprize when mid-day our newest order from Deadly Girl Couture showed up. Those in the corporate world know it's never too early to start dressing for success. To that end, we've added the Preppy Onesie to our inventory. The spiffy oxford button down with a tie look is perfect for the boardroom, opps I mean the playroom!

Have a future social butterfly in your world? The pink Socialite Onesie is appropriate for most occasions. With the classic pearls printed on the front, a girl can't go wrong.

OK, that's it for tonight. I have to try to figure out how to get the pain medicine down this grumpy, dopey dog.

XOXO

Marley

So about our fabulous new jewelry line....bangles by Marley!! I am soooooo head over heels for these. And as I rightly predicted....half of the ones we rushed in for Valentine's day have already been snagged! No worries....we have oodles of other styles we will be recieving shortly. Marley makes these gorgeous matte gold & antique silver bangles....her main collection includes bangles with positive meanings. You pick the positive and powerful statements that best describe you or a girlfriend....such as Chic, Fabulous, Beautiful, Charming, Unstoppable, Magnificient, etc.....and you rock them proudly on your wrist! The ones we rushed in for Valentine's Day are part of the Words to Live By collection...romantically engraved with the words "Te Amare Por Siempre," translation "I Will Love You Forever."

The other bracelets we have in from Marley are bling LOVE bracelets....jeweled with Swarovski cyrstals, they come in pink, light grey and vanilla (all the vanilla are gone....we will get more in asap 'cuz I really need one!) And as Curtsy Mama mentioned.....these fabulous brand new lovelies are included in the Valentine's Day jewelry and lingerie sale, so are 20% off until Thursday. Hurry in and treat yourself....or leave some hints for your honey and maybe you will get just what you wished for!

Ruffle Butts!

That's right, I said Ruffle Butts! These onesies are so stinkin cute, I can barely stand it! Quick, somebody give me a baby to dress! We received a great selection of the Couture Ruffled Onesies from Glamajama. We also received a couple of 2 piece sets - little tiny t-shirt and pant sets, tooooo cute! I don't have any grandchildren yet, so I usually go over the Unleashed Pawsabilities to play with owner Stephanie's baby girl Cameron. We try out alot of our baby items on her, but she's growing fast.

We also received our first shipment from a fabulous new jewlery line today. We're pretty in love with the new pieces and Danielle will be blogging about them tomorrow. Even though they're brand spankin new, they will be included in the 20% off Valentine's sale. If you can't wait til tomorrow night's blog to see what they look like, come on down and get your hands on a piece before it's all gone. Hint - all the pieces we received will make great Valentine's gifts.

It's been interesting in the store today. We've had a ton of people through the front door and Snicker dog has seriously challenged our air freshening capabilities. I think we've gone through an entire box of matches. At least we have these adorable match sets by 2 Pyromaineiacs, so we look good while ridding the air of fumes bad enough to stop a charging water buffalo! Maybe it's all the treats I left with him last night when we went to dinner. We locked him in the store with a stack of goodies, maybe not the best idea?

Pair

The Captain, Curtsy Mama and I just finished enjoying the most AMAZING dinner! We ate at Pair which is litterally right around the corner from Curtsyland. We are all angry at ourselves......and quite embarrassed......that this was our first time dining there. It is our new favorite restaurant!!! We have always heard nothing but wonderful things about Pair and have always wanted to go....it just took us way too long to make it in. Their menu features European-inspired dishes and a wonderful wine list....all the dishes are smaller portions perfect for family style dining. Everything we tried was simply divine.....we definitely reccomend this place if you haven't already been! Check out their menu here. Tonight was a early send-off dinner for the Captain.....we found out last week that the Army needs him in Wisconsin for a few weeks. He takes off on Sunday.....of course they need him during my favorite holiday.....boo.

Yesterday Curtsy Mama told you all about our fabulous new baby bath & body care line Noodle & Boo. We recieved all the testers and samples in today. We have in-store testers of the Conditioning Hair Polish, the Baby Ointment, the Super Soft Lotion, and the Ultimate Cleansing Cloths......and we have little take home samples of the lotion and ointment. My favorite products from this company are the Bouncing Baby Bubbles and the French-Milled Soap. I think I am going to take some of the bubbles home for me ;-)....I adore bubble baths but have super sensitive skin. This company is great because every formula is hypoallergenic and clinically-tested to minimize the risk of allergic reaction. The soaps are great because they are shaped to fit in your hand....and even better, are engraved "nudie cutie" on one side and "clean bean" on the other. I am totally going to snag some of these too....I am very young at heart ;-)

Noodle & Boo

We've been on the lookout for a while to add a great baby products line to the store. It had to be something really special before we would consider adding it to the floor. The minute we were introduced to the Noodle and Boo Line, it was love!! Inspired by her children’s need for products developed for ultra-sensitive skin, Christine Burger founded Noodle & Boo. Working with professionals who specialize in natural, holistic skin care each exclusive formula is developed to nourish, replenish and protect especially delicate and sensitive skin. The company is lovingly named after Christine’s two young children, Andrew and Matthew, also known as Noodle and Boo.

Speaking of young ones, on Tuesday afternoons I volunteer down at the Denise Louie Center, reading to the silliest bunch of kids I've ever met. Yesterday, one of the books I was reading was about a father and son looking for a pirate's treasure, which they called "booty". Well, my little munchkins were couldn't understand why they would be searching for a pirate's "booty". The word has a whole new meaning today! Try as I might to explain, they thought it was hysterical to parade around the room, looking for the pirate's "booty". From the mouths of babes.........

Fashion Week....Tarina in the news

It is one of my favorite times of the year....New York Fashion Week!! Designers are showing their Fall 2008 collections right now. I anxiously await for each new collection to be posted on Style.com (Marc by Marc Jacobs should be up any minute....) then save my fav looks in my online lookbooks. One of my favorites so far has been Erin Fetherston. Her fall collection had a hint of a dark side coming from the queen of girly. I ADORED her Go: International collection for Target......I always wear the red silk dress with heart buttons with my Tarina Tarantino Victorian Punk Skull bow brooch. Good thing all tv shows are in reruns....leaves me lots of time to drool over the pretty new things Fall will bring. Speaking of shows in reruns, I came across a pic today of "Gossip Girl's" Taylor Momsen wearing TT's Gothic Lolita Pink Head Necklace on the red carpet.....gorgeous!

While on the subject of Tarina in the news....we recieved an email showing a model in Vogue Italia's February issue rocking Tarina's Tokyo Hardcore neon chokers. She looks amazing and is wearing one of each color which I love. The Toyko Hardcore collection is so much fun and fancies up any dull outfit. The neon-bright translucent bubble beads and crystals that adorn each piece appear to glow. We are getting our big TT spring orders together this week......let us know asap if there is anything you can't go on living without (I know the feeling) or if you would like us to stock up on something we are out of!

My Head's About to Explode!!!

I have been working on finishing up closing out our books for 2007 all day today. As it's Danielle's day off, I keep getting interrupted and then forgetting where I was. I've looked at the numbers so much now that they're all starting to run together, they're taking over my head - they're everywhere - AAAAGGGGGGG!! Just kidding! I'm just really sick of looking at numbers today. Thankfully tomorrow is my day off and I don't have to look at, think about or even use numbers tomorrow if I don't want to. In fact, I've a good mind not to have anything to do with the number 3 tomorrow :)

Yesterday, I talked about surprises for Valentine's Day. These vintage containers are perfect for filling with little surprises. How about writing down all the reasons you love your significant other or your child. Cut them into little strips, roll into a bunch of little scrolls, tie with ribbon and and throw them in with some sweet treats?

Maybe you have a new little cutie in your life celebrating his or her first Valentine's Day. These Candy Heart Tee Shirts will make sure everyone knows just how sweet they are!

I just received word that King 5 Evening Magazine will be showing the piece they filmed at Curtsy Bella last week about the Mommy Mixers. It is scheduled to be broadcast this coming Wednesday February 6 at 7PM. OOOOHHHH Exciting!!!
