Thanks

When I was growing up, within a week after Christmas, my parents insured that I wrote a thank you note to everyone that had given me a gift. I didn't love doing it, but as I matured was grateful that it was something they made me do (eek - was my mother actually right about something?). When I was raising my kids, I always stressed good manners and writing thank you notes was one of the things I made them do (OMG - have I become my mother?). If you let the kids choose some fun cards on which to write their note it makes the task easier to swallow. The Sweet Note Letter Set by Eeboo and the Robot Create Your Own Card Set by Mudpuppy are two great ways to inspire your young letter writers.

If you're like me and think that good manners are becoming a lost skill, check out the Good Manners Flash Cards. The cards have "polite pigs" demonstrating good behavior in familiar situations. A fun way to help your kiddos learn these important skills without becoming the dreaded "nag".

Can You Train an Old Dog?

Curtsy Dog Snickers is back in residence after spending his December days at daycare. For those of you who know him, Snickers is a 12+ year old Beagle who has his own ideas about everything and tends to be pretty stubborn. When I began bringing him to the store, I had a little leash that I kept him on that limited how far into the store he could go. Well, after a month in daycare, that's not cutting it anymore. Put him on the leash and he cries like the pitiful old soul that he is. So we're trying something different. I moved his bed out in front, by the cash register and am allowing him to come and greet customers when they come into the store. Once he's done that, he seem pretty happy to come back and lay on his bed - no crying! Go figure!

We have recently started carrying Chick Chocolates from Seattle Chocolates. These little pieces of sweet relief come in 4 different adorable boxes - Strong Chick, Extreme Chick, Nutty Chick and Survivor Chick. Each box contains three individually wrapped pieces (loving the built in portion control!). Seattle Chocolates also donates 100% of the profits from the Survivor Chick chocolates to the fight against cancer. I have been working lately at the gym to be able to do 20 push-ups (the military kind, not the girly kind). I finally reached my goal last week (WOO HOO!!)so to celebrate, I treated myself to Strong Chick - cause I am!

#@$%* Computer!!!!

Sorry for no blog yesterday. Danielle was running around like a crazy girl to get all the sale stuff grouped together prior to leaving for vacay in Arizona. I, on the other hand, spent the day dealing with another computer crash. Completely sucked to be me yesterday, but I'm over it now. Last crash we were able to do some repairs and save the system, this time - it's "bye-bye" to the old and in with a new unit.

Just so you know, ALL our holiday items are 50% off. The gorgeous John Toole ornaments - half off! Hurry in before they're all gone as we've had quite a few people snatch up a bunch.

After the holidays, many of us are on auto-pilot. We've taken care of everybody else over the past few weeks and neglected our beautiful selves. It's good for the soul to be nourishing to our friends and families, but now we need a little somethin-somethin to remind us of how fabulous we truly are. We just received a little somethin from our fav lingerie company - Lucy B. The new Tabby Collection bra, g-string and marilyn panty will bring out your wild side (you know the one you kept hidden from your in-laws during their visit) - Meow!

A Christmas Poem.........

Twas the night before Christmas in our city of green
The streets were all empty, not a car to be seen
Lucy B Panties hung by the fire with care
with hopes that Saint Nicholas soon would be there
Danielle and Captain were all settled in bed
while dreams of Tarina jewels danced through Danielle's head

Curtsy Mama had settled in for a long winter's sleep
Glad for a rest and to be off of her feet.
When all of a sudden there arose such a clatter,
She sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

It was Santa and he looked truly bad and afright
"Had a mishap with the sleigh on my way here tonight"
One of my bags flew out when I left the last city and
I'm short on my gifts, which is really a pity!
Now I know that it's late, but what can I say?
I need Curtsy Girls help to save Christmas Day!
With all of your sparkles and gifties and more
you'll re-fill my bags, of that I am sure"

Curtsy Girls love Christmas, that much you know,
so they put on their boots and trudged through the snow (ok, it was really just rain, but that doesn't rhyme does it?)

Santa shopped and we wrapped and as quick as a blink
He loaded his sleigh and was gone in a wink

And we heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight
A Curtsilicious Christmas to all and to all a sparkly good night!

XOXO

Harried Husbands

We've had a lot of husbands in the store today who are thrilled when they find out that we offer complimentary gift wrap. We're even happy to wrap gifts purchased someplace else for a nominal fee.

Need some fabulous last minute gift ideas? The Curtsy Girls can help! Make yourself a hero by giving the girl in your life one of the amazing purses from Femme Sud. The Fame and Fortune Clutch is metallic gold lambskin - very ooh la la! The clutches are designed to look like a book and open up to reveal a surprise, like the Superstar Mirror and Glossary in the Fame & Fortune. Each design is part of a limited edition of 999 bags, so she probably won't be seeing anyone else carrying the same purse. We have 3 different designs, Fame & Fortune, Diary and Yearbook.

Not exactly sure what she would like? Jewelry from the Tarina Tarantino collection is always a sure bet. Whether she's into skulls, Hello Kitty, Barbie or something a little more conservative, Tarina has something for everyone. This Electro Cameo Mod Ring is sure to bring a smile come Christmas morning.

I have to end today's blog with a BIG THANK YOU to Stephanie and Linda, the owners of Unleashed Pawsabilities. Their store is 2 doors down from Curtsyland and is fabulous! During the holiday season, I have been having Curtsydog Snickers go to doggie daycare with Tony, one of the guys that works at Unleashed. He left to go out of town to today for Christmas and the Unleashed gals insisted that I let Snick dog come and hang out at their store. He's much happier over there where he can run around and it was a wonderful help to us.

For all those shoppers who just love the adrenaline rush they get from waiting until the very last minute, Curtsy Bella will be open tomorrow, Christmas Eve from 10AM - 5PM.

XOXO

White Elephant.....Voluspa

Crazy Saturday at Curtsyland!! Our hands are covered in cuts and bandages from gift wrap overload ;-) The Captain was running around all day trying to find perfect gifts to bring for our White Elephant exchange on Christmas night. Things get very silly our at annual game.....last year the Captain ended up with a homemade magnet of Ron Burgundy. We upped the dollar amount this year...hopefully that will lead to more desirable items(!) Tons of customers have been in the store the past week looking for a fun goody to bring to their exchange.....definitely our most popular white elephant gift (and probably what I will end up bringing) is the Cock-a-Doodle. It is a notepad with six alternating designs where the doodler is invited to fill in the gaps. Also popular.....the Shame on You Kit and the Clean Getaway Kit - for those nights you just can't make it home....you are prepared! Another fun one is our Striptease Kit. We had a customer buy this kit last week for her parents for their fortieth wedding anniversary.....tee hee!!

We started carrying Voluspa candles which I LUUUUVVVVVVV!!! Right now we have cute little glass candles and votives.....we brought them in for the stocking stuffer party but will definitely be expanding our selection. Voluspa makes some great travel candles in decorative metal bowls which have over 40 hours of burn time. They also do small 3 oz. votives which have over 25 hours of burn time. One of the votive scents we have is Crisp Champagne.....perfect New Year's Party hostess gift!! All of their scents are AAAAHHHHH-MAZING! In addition to candles, we have their Beta Luv Me Parfum in Josephine and Fragaria.....delish! Ooohhh....and the best holiday hostess gift is a candle from the Seasons Collection. The Snowflakes Winter candle is wonderful! And my fav scent is the Makassar, Ebony & Peach Seasons candle. We have a sample of each candle out of the box for your ol' factory enjoyment. (Today we had a customer drop one of the samples and just put it back on the shelf without telling us....there was broken glass shards all over the floor....WTF....nice.) 'Tis the Season....only two more shopping days!!!!!

Gifts for the Beer Lover

So, everyone knows a true beer lover - right? What can you get them for the holidays that doesn't have LAME written all over it? Beer Bands by Fred are the perfect gift for the lager lover. These nifty little stretchy bands will help party guests distinguish their beer from someone else's. The set of 12 bands have descriptives such as "slut" "sex addict" and "anti-social" printed on them. The big question will be who gets which one?

What's more frustrating than picking up a six pack of fancy beer, arriving at your destination and finding out that the caps aren't twist off and no one has a bottle opener? The Beer Belly Belt will keep that frustration at bay. Great gift for the guy who always likes to come prepared.

For the beer lover who wants to increase their knowledge of their passion, BeerSmarts is a fun and informative way to accomplish that objective. There are 60 question and answer cards covering everything from barley to beer. Also included is a BeerTips Guide. This handy guide is overflowing with useful information on how beer is made, descriptions of various types of beers, famous breweries to visit around the world, and ideas on how to host a beer tasting. Salut!

Office Space Fun

These days, us Curtsy Girls get to play store everyday.....hee hee!! However, we both have had corporate jobs in the past.....and remember straining to entertain one's lonely self while stuck in cubicle land. Which is why we searched far and wide this year to find fun and entertaining office-place amusements for those super-productive people you know. A best seller so far this season is definitely the Kill Timebook by Atypyk. This fantastic activity book, for those with too much time on their hands, contains endless creative "activities" that require only a pencil and a blank mind. It’s the cool way to doodle without breaking a sweat.

We know it can be tough during a meeting when you suddenly remember the most amazing piece of juicy office-gossip that you HAVE to tell your BFF co-worker....maybe the ex called last night or you finally decided on New Year's plans. Whatever the V.I.P memo may contain....get it across the table without disturbing the boss man using these pull-back car memo clips. Vrrrroooooooommmm!!!!

If you know someone who likes to shake things up at the office but is lacking creativity of late....we suggest the Office Memo Stickies which contain 50 hilarious pre-written and ready-to-post office prank stickies. A few examples...."Great news about the job! Take it!"....."Meet me at the water cooler in 5 minutes - I will tell you what everyone is saying about you after last night. A friend." And straight from Prank University, we now have Bad Behavior 101 Postcards. This pack contains an assortment of postcards that feature classic and cutting-edge pranks with graphic depiction on the front and brief instructions on the back. All surefire ways to create some excitement at the office!

Another thing we remember from the corporate world is how much you have to make your work stand out in order to get noticed apart from your coworkers. Abusive Office Stamps should do the trick. We have the "Complete and Utter Bullshit" and "This is F**king Urgent" versions. You're welcome!

Great Gifts for Guys!

Why are guys sooooo hard to buy for? Customers are always thrilled to learn that Curtsyland has a great little guys section with some unusual goods. What do you get for the man who has everything? A Grenade Oil Lamp of course! These babies are great conversation pieces - can't you just hear it? "Say Phil why do you have a grenade on your coffee table - are you a retired mercenary or what?" "Why Jane, it's not a real grenade, but an oil lamp - you know I'm more of a lover than a fighter!"

Maybe you have a golfer on your list. This USGA Rules of Golf is the official UGSA authorized edition with all of the most up to date revisions. We've also got some nifty little ball markers perfect for his stocking.

Something for the man about town? These Sonia Spencer Pin Up Cuff Links are always a big hit. These funky and stylish cuff links are set in a contemporary metal surround - sure to spice up any dress shirt or tux.

Cookie Decorating....Little I

Just got home from our annual Christmas cookie decorating shindig at my brother's house....a tradition Curtsy Mama started when we were kids. We all look forward to it every year.....the end cookie results seem to get more silly and naughty each year. The Most Creative Cookie Award goes to Greg this year...he took a handbag shaped cookie, turned it right-side-down, painted it to look like the top view of a toilet complete with a Playboy mag on top and a poo in the bowl. I am actually going to grant him the Ewwwwwwww Cookie Award as well. We also used the fabulous ABC (Already Been Chewed) cookie cutters from Fred this year which have been a best seller this holiday season for Curtsyland and were a hit at the party. You can imagine where the minds of silly boys go when they have a maimed gingerbread man cookie and oodles of colored frosting to go wild with.

So......more stocking stuffer and girlfriend gift goodness to tell you about! We are now carrying the fabulous Mirror Mints by Little I. We have the Personality range which includes Flirt, High Maintenance, Hottie, Cute, and Spoiled Rotten. I imagine you all have a girlfriend who falls into one of these categories....very cute way to ensure your fav girly girl always has fresh breath and a mirror to apply her lipstick!

Little I also makes adorable sachets. My favorite ones look like itty bitty bras and are filled with the sweetest scent beads. They come in all sorts of cute materials including leopard, pink polka dots, black lace with little diamonds, etc. They also make tiny handbag shaped sachets which are all pink and black embellished with jewels and sequins. And last but not least, we have tiny corset shaped sachet key rings. Love!!!

I'm going to try to get this blog done between customers. Curtsyland has been quite busy today. My first customer of the day was celebrating her 24th wedding anniversary and she still got all smiley when talking about her husband - how cute is that? The Pleasure Pouches make great anniversary gifts or stocking stuffers for that someone special. These little gems have 12 tokens in each pouch and come in both R- Rated and PG-Rated versions. I can promise that both the giver and the receiver of these tokens end up being winners :)

Continuing with the stocking stuffer theme that Danielle began last night, we got in a bunch of great little books of sticky notes. The @#&%-its! version will insure that the note you leave on some one's desk will get noticed! Probably not a good idea to leave one on the desk of your boss, unless you're tired of your job.
Well, that's going to have to be it for now - the store's filling up again and I hear the call of the gift wrap counter!

Tweens and New Year's

Fabulously busy weekend in Curtsyland!! Still recovering from the stocking stuffer party.....I believe I have finally found all remaining cupcake crumbs hiding on the sales floor!! And now that all the stocking stuffer goodness we were hiding from you in the backroom has been unveiled....I can finally tell you about some of it! It has been killing us not spilling to you all the fab things we found. One of my favorite new lines we are carrying is Molly 'N Me, who makes wonderful products for those hard to shop for tweens. We have adorable pieces from their Queenie line.....little handbags, compact mirrors, ring holders, and photo clips.

Molly 'N Me also makes fun body products.....a best seller has been the Tattoo Body Pens and the super large gem rings filled with yummy lip gloss. And my absolute favorite girly girl piece from Molly 'N Me is a headband with a frilly marabou crown topped with plastic gems.....too freakin' cute!!

I put out some fantastic New Year's goodies today from our favorite party company Tops Malibu.......we have bouquets of party horns which make a great hostess gift or party favor for your guests. Sparklers are an absolute must for New Year's...we have cute packages of 2008 sparklers. Also from Tops Malibu, New Year's surprise balls!! The surprise balls have over 100 ft of crepe paper, in which surprises and gifts spill out of each layer as you unwind. The Captain and I got tickets to the big bash at EMP....we have heard good things about it so hopefully it will be fun. I found a dress today that I may die if I do not have to ring in the new year.....it involves oodles of ostrich feathers!!!!

Curtsy Girl SarahRose here!

Hello fabulous CurtsyBella customers!

I am happy to report that CurtsyGirl Danielle is on a hot date...so I am writing on the stores behalf!

I'm an occasional Curtsy Girl helping out once in a while when my school and dance schedules permit , but I've a customer since their opening! I love everything about the store and it's even more fabulous working with the orginal Curtsy Girls, Mary Jo and Danielle!

Today was a crazy day at the store! It was busy from 11 till our closing! We are still recovering from the stocking stuffer party, which was a blast. The fabulous goodies have been distributed throughout the store, so be sure to come in and check out the new additions! We have plenty of gifts from kiddies to men, and all are around $10--so it's a great deal!

My little brother recently got his drivers permit and believe it or not, Curtsy Bella just got in the perfect gift for both recently licensed drivers and those of us that don't remember when we got ours! They are called Sticars, and they are car magnets in funky and fabulous colors, shapes and sizes. They are completely safe to put on the exterior of you car but also work at a regular magnet. We have several different shapes including peace signs, skulls and birds in a variety of colors. If you're looking for a gift for someone that loves personal touches, I suggest Sticars!

Look at how cute it makes putting gas in your car!

I hope everyone has a Curtsylicious day!

XO,
SarahRose

1st Annual Curtsylicious Stocking Stuffer Party

We're happy to report that the 1st Annual Curtsylicious Stocking Stuffer Party was a smashing success!! We closed the store at 4PM to begin re-positioning all the merchandise from the back room to the front of the store. Danielle is so organized that she already had everything displayed in the back and labeled as to where she wanted it in the store. Sarah Rose and I got a great workout going back and forth and back and forth and ....well you get the idea.

At 6PM sharp, we opened the doors and the fun began. Curtsy son/brother Josh and bandmate Derek Hernandez kept the mood mellow with some great acoustic tunes. Our pals Michela and Jill came in to insure that everyone had fresh cupcakes from Cupcake Royale to keep up their strength.

Curtsy Girl Danielle greeted guests with over sized shopping bags at the door. One lucky shopper, June S. won a fabulous Christmas stocking filled to the brim with CB goodies. We ended the night 2 tired cookies, but happy that everyone had a great time.

This will definitely be an annual event! For all who attended, we would love any feedback or comments you'd like to share. For those of you who couldn't make it, we still have LOTS of great stocking stuffers for everyone on your list!

Our Day in Court

I spent my morning in the King County Courthouse waiting to testify at the trial of the individual who burglarized Curtsyland back in February. Other than my divorce a long time ago, I have never had an occassion to be in a courtroom. It was just like in the movies, there was a judge, a jury, a court reporter and everything (god how much of a hick am I?). I had to watch the video of the burglary several times which was difficult with the burglar sitting right in front of me. It took all my self restraint to not hop over to the defense table and throttle him, but I figured that would probably piss off the judge so I restrained myself.

We're so excited for tomorrow for The First Annual Curtsylicious Stocking Stuffer Party! Remember that we will be closed between 4 & 6 PM to haul all the loot out of the back room. We will not be offering gift wrap tomorrow night, but if you are here and find some wonderful gifts, you can either leave them with us overnight to wrap or bring them back and we'll wrap them at your convenience.

This time of year, so many of us travel across country to be with family over the holidays. A lot of our customers are looking for a gift that will fit in a suitcase or a carry on. This whimsical clock by Ramsay Studios is entitled "Welcome Home" and is just the right size to carry back to that one person who makes home the place you want to return to. We have lots of other gifts that will travel well - just ask! Remember if you are planning on carrying gifts through security they cannot be wrapped.

New Lucy B!!!

Busy busy week at Curtsyland! We hosted our first private shopping night for ten lovelies from Olympia. They headed up in a limo and had the store to themselves to start their holiday shopping. I believe they all had a fabulous time.....they sipped champagne and kept their energy up with chocolate truffles while us Curtsy Girls wrapped wrapped wrapped! Thanks again ladies!!

And only two nights until our first annual Curtsylicious Stocking Stuffer Party!
The Captain is actually sending out an email right now that will provide all the details. I believe we will be very tuckered out come this weekend.....however the Captain informed me we will be attending an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party this Saturday. Not sure how excited I am for this.

We received two big shipments in from my FAVORITE lingerie designer Lucy B, and her new fall collections are TOO DIE FOR! One is titled Starlet, and I imagine that is precisely what you will feel like the instant you slip this on. The collection includes a chemise, a Marilyn panty, a thong, and a bralette. It has leopard print, pink lace, little gold heart charms, gold and pink ribbon.....GORGEOUS! We also received a fun collection titled Jungle Judy. It has one of Lucy B's garter skirts, which is a fav with our customers. Other pieces in this collection include a bralette and thong....each piece is navy with giraffe print and has lighter blue bows & trim. Gentlemen....any presents for your lady from Lucy B will guarantee it will be a Very Merry Christmas!!

Time, Time, Tickin on Time

Fabulous night last night! My pal Pam and I went to see The Jersey Boys at the 5th Avenue Theater. It was amazing, amazing, amazing!!!! I'm ready to go again! I already knew that the music would be great, but the cast members all had incredible voices, the sets and the staging make this a MUST SEE!!! If you don't already have tickets, go, now, scoop some up while you still can! It was the perfect antidote to what had been kind of a crappy week for me.

Have you always hankered to have a grandfather clock, but thought it was a little too "your mother" or "your grandmother" for your taste? The antique grandfather clock has moved into the 21st century! The image of an antique clock is printed onto canvas fabric and hung on the wall. Behind the fabric is a wooden frame and modern clock movement, complete with antique-style hands. It's more than 5 feet tall.

Just a reminder that the Fabulous First Annual Curtsylicious Stocking Stuffer Party is coming up this Thursday, December 13th. We'll be closing the store from 4 - 6PM to haul all of the goodies out of the back room, but we'll re-open the doors at 6 to get the party started. Remember that in addition to all the new loot we'll be putting out, we'll have live entertainment from Curtsy Brother/Son Josh and one of his band mates, Derek. We'll also have some little nibbles to help keep your strength up. We know that parking in this neighborhood can be a headache. Since the employees of businesses in University Village must park off site, many of the available street parking spaces in the neighborhood are taken up. But since they do park off site, there is a large, free parking garage just about a block from the store, not that I would ever encourage you to use said garage and walk up here, but if you thought of it on your own, it would probably be OK.

La Vie Parisienne

T.G.I.F......even though I don't really like the weekends as much because the delivery men don't bring me packages full of new pretty things for Curtsyland. They were very good to us today however....we FINALLY received the Midnight Blackberry Cake diaper bag by Petunia Pickle Bottom. I mentioned before that this one has already been snatched.....a woman tracked us down from Canada desperate for this yummy bag.....I am just glad I got to lay eyes on it before letting it go. It is absolutely gorgeous!!!! We will beg and plead to get more Midnight Blackberry goodness in ASAP....let us know soon if you also can't go on living without the most fabulous diaper bag.

We also received lots of small packages...and of course wonderful things come in small packages. The wonderfulness that arrived was new designs La Vie Parisienne jewelry by Catherine Popesco. This jewelry line comes from a workshop the designer built at Au Bout de Reves, on a vineyard in the heart of the Loire Valley, France. All of the jewelry is vintage inspired, rendered from original molds and stampings the designer unearthed in Paris.

The majority of the line we carry is gold....and we just started carrying some designs in silver. The gold pieces have a 14 carat gold antiqued finish over a copper base, and the silver designs are "Old Silver" which is a traditional French method of plating, laying sterling silver over a copper base. The bling pieces have Swarovski crystal and pearls. And one of my favorite features of all the La Vie necklaces are that they have two clasps, allowing you to wear them at two slightly different lengths. Hurry in.....we can never keep this jewelry line in stock!

Wish List

Time after time I hear it... A new customer is checking out and they say "I love your store! I'm not going to tell any of my friends about this place so that I can always have the best gifts!" Now think about it, when you receive a gift, wouldn't you like it to come from your favorite store? Because the Curtsy Girls love you and want you to get everything you deserve, we've created the Curtsilicious Wish List. When you're in the store, checking the names off your list, take a minute to look around and see what you'd like Santa to put under your tree. We'll give you a classy little clipboard with a Wish List attached and while we're wrapping your loot, you can help all the people who want to shop for you. When you've finished putting your heart's desires on the list, give it to one of us and we'll insure that Santa and all his elves have access to the list when it's time to shop for you.

One other thing I wanted to mention. Did you know that Curtsyland is available for private shopping events? We have a group of girlfriends getting together next week, renting a limo and driving up from Olympia. We'll be opening the store just for them (after hours) so they can shop and laugh and talk (and maybe put away a little bubbly).

Raspberry Cream Cake

Need the perfect holiday gift for that special mom to be? The Society Satchel by Petunia Pickle Bottom is the ultimate diaper bag. The colors have scrumptious names like Raspberry Cream Cake and Lemon Chiffon Cake. The bag is constructed of European Cut Velvet with coordinating wool tweed. There are four different ways it can be carried (hobo clutch, backpack, shoulder strap and valet stroller clips)which makes this bag quite versatile. A built in changing station and oodles of pockets make this a go-everywhere tote. New moms love it because it's pretty and doesn't look like your typical diaper bag and they continue to use it as a tote long after the diaper stage.

Short blog tonight as the Mommy Mixer is in full swing right now.
