Happy almost New Year from the Curtsy Girls!! 2010 was a big year for us! After over 2 years of planning and saving Curtsy Mama traveled to Africa with her best friend Pamela. We were able to go on safari and attend 2 World Cup soccer games. It was pretty awesome!

After that was the wedding of Curtsy Girl Danielle to her long time love, Ed. Danielle pushed her creative/artistic boundaries by making all of the bridal bouquets out of vintage jewelry, and the boutonnieres out of brass stampings. She also added to the magic of the day by creating glittery accessories for guests to wear in the photo booth we rented. The tables were adorned with custom made signs as well. Her wedding is featured in Seattle Metropolitan Bridal Magazine which will be on sale in January 2011. Custom Curtsylicious Creations is an expanding part of Curtsy Bella and Danielle is available to help make your wedding or event an affair to remember.

We were also able to push past the tough learning curve thrown at us with our new embroidery machine this year. That has allowed us to offer an ever expanding array of gifts that can be personalized. We've learned that Seattlites have just as wicked a sense of humor as the Curtsy Girls as evidenced by the success of our naughty holiday hand towels, napkins and golf towels.

So what's in store for 2011? The Curtsy Girls will be heading to the Atlanta Gift Show in a couple of weeks. Look for expansions in our wedding and baby sections this year. In May we'll be celebrating 5 years in business, so stay tuned for details of this special milestone. We'll also be launching a brand spanking new website in January. We'll be back to faithfully blogging showing what's new in the store and what Curtsylicious fun events are happening.

As we say goodbye to 2010, we want to say thanks for your support this year. We are two of the luckiest girls in the world. We have a job we absolutely love that brings amazing people (our customers) into our lives.

Engagement Pictures

I have been promising to many of our lovely customers that I would post pictures & updates as the wedding plans progress. A few weeks ago, we had Engagement pictures taken by the divine Barbie Hull, who will also be photographing our big day. The pictures don't have the same feel as the wedding will....you see, I found these ahhhmazing Empire State heels...and since we got engaged in NYC, I had to have them for our engagement session. The shoes led to a red, black & bling theme for the shoot. I brought a few goodies home from the store to use that some of you may recognize....the bling skull lamp, the jeweled pistol wall vase, and the triple gun table vase.

That skull lamp was actually a project that the Captain & I did together in the first few months we were dating. I had found the lamp at an antique store and had started adorning it with crystals. He came into my life just about the time I had become tres tired of bedazzling, and picked up where I had left off. He was on such a jeweling high after he finished it, that he decided to do the pistol wall vase as well. I'm pretty sure I knew right away that any man that would rhinestone for me, was a man I wanted to marry ;) That's spidey on a gorgeous pearl encrusted ship that will be appearing in my hair at one point during the big day. I found the ship at a little antique store just after we got engaged. Our wedding has a Marie Antoinette-ish theme...so a ship in the hair was a must!

Which shoes to choose indeed!!!! Hope you enjoy...I will do another post soon to feature the Bridesmaid inspiration boxes I put together. In the meantime...Barbie just posted pictures of our invitations on her blog....she took the most beautiful pictures of them and I am so grateful!!!!! Check them out here!

Aaaahh...Spring! The flowers are blooming, the birds are chirping, the sun is shining......oh wait, that's the scenario in our heads. This is Seattle and it's raining and the wind is howling! Sounds like a good day to snuggle in and read what's new in Curtsyland!

We've always been big fans of Alice in Wonderland and the new Tim Burton movie seems to have reved up everyone's interest in a place where rabbits talk, pigs are used as footstools and there's a Mad sort of Man in a purple hat! Tarina Tarantino's new Acid Alice collection celebrates the celebration of the madness! We love the Baroque Lucite Framed Ring that can serve as your reminder to take nothing too seriously.

Wedding Season is starting and Curtsy Bella has the perfect shower gift. Bella Barudan, our spiffy new embroidery machine is helping us offer truly personalized gifts for the new bride. A soft terry robe customized with her new married name, or one that simply says "The Bride" on the back and her first name on the front is something that she will treasure as a reminder of this special time in her life.

This is a busy year for the Curtsy Girls. Curtsy Mama is traveling to Africa with her best pal this summer and Danielle and the Captain are tying the knot is August. It's so easy to let the days slip by in a mindless hurry. The Simple Abundance book is filled with 366 short essays that serve as a reminder to take the time to slow down and enjoy the gifts of each day. It is a truly wonderful gift to give to someone special or yourself.

Danielle is constantly scouring antique and second hand stores for unique pieces to use in her displays. Several times she has come across miniature lady head vases, but they have always been expensive. When we stumbled upon these at the Atlanta Gift Show, brand new and soooo pretty, we did the happy dance! There are 3 different styles and they are just the right size to hold mini bouquets for your Easter table, or your makeup brushes on your vanity , or pencils on your desk.....the list goes on and on.

Favorite new guy gift in the store! Mysack is a fun, unique way for him to carry a few extra balls...golf balls that is, on his golf bag.

Sorry for the 2 week absence, the nasty strep bug that has been circling bit me and bit me hard. I'm not one to stay at home much and spending days on the couch feeling lousy is not my idea of fun. As least the day before it hit, I had adopted 2 new kitties and this gave us some bonding time. They are actually 2 year old sisters different as night and day. One is on the plump side and the other is absolutely tiny! They have turned out to be very fun and loving cats. I had to change their names as the tags they came with were un-feminine and certainly not fitting for 2 such fabulous felines. Their new names are Coco and Chanel...much more fitting!

Today is my son Josh's birthday. We began the day by taking him to the Queen Mary Tea Room for a b-day brunch, complete with making him wear the crown they keep on hand for guys. The Curtsy Girls love celebrations, especially birthdays!

A couple of years ago I found the Happy Birthday Flower Candle and was so amazed by it that I simply had to have it for Curtsyland. If you haven't seen one work in person, your life is simply not complete. When you light the closed flower, a tower of sparkles begins, then the flower opens with all of the candles lit and then the flower spins around while playing Happy Birthday. One of the best selling items in the store.

No matter what age the birthday celebrant it, a hat always helps them to feel it's their special day. The 3 Tiered Birthday Hat does just that and it comes in the most adorable little striped hat box as well!

Whatever you are celebrating, you know that Curtsy Bella will always have just the right gift and we'll always make it look beautiful.

Acid Alice

A few of the Acid Alice pieces from Tarina Tarantino arrived today. We have been eagerly awaiting these additions to her fabulous Queen Alice Collection and as usual, we were not disappointed. I am particularly crazy about the Mad Hatter Pendant Necklace. The purple rosebud bead makes a cool accent on this piece (I'm a big purple fan right now) she has made it so the necklace can be worn long or short, making it really versatile as well.

The new Jelly Colors from Butter London are here and we can't wait to try them. Juicy, Sheer colors made to give just a hint of color that looks like slick, wet lip gloss for your nails. Want a bit of a more dramatic effect, layer a few coats or, better yet, mix layers of the sheer colors for a stunning, effect as unique as you.

For a while now, we've been on the lookout for a baby book worthy of earning a spot in the Curtsyland baby section. You know us, nothing too ordinary or cutsy is going to pass muster, but when we found Baby's First Tattoo - A Memory book for Modern Parents, we knew the search was over. Sure there are albums out there to document baby's first tooth, haircut, steps....whatever. But where can new parents write down those alternative moments that really should be documented. Baby's First Projectile Vomit, Baby's First Tantrum in a Crowded Grocery Store, Baby's 10,000 Dirty Diaper. These things must be remembered, documented, written down.....otherwise you might forget them and think of becoming parents again :).

We first laid eyes on the Christian Lacroix Haute Couture Note Card Set in Atlanta last summer! We immediately fell in love with the collection of note cards and notebooks by this celebrated French designer. They were supposed to arrive in time for Christmas and we were crushed when the manufacturer informed us that wasn't to be. It's said that patience is a virtue and ours was rewarded this week with the arrival of this exquisite order. The cards are just so beautiful, it puts me in the mood to go home, put some Edith Piaf on the ipod & write a long letter to a cherished friend.

I think Danielle's display of some of our new Cyberoptix Ties is inspired! Displayed on the devils are Chastity (in black) and Lust (in red). Designer Bethany Shorb bills her line as Ties That Don't Suck and comes up with some of the coolest designs we've seen. Believe me, people do a double take when your guy strolls in sporting one of these bad boys.

Look at these itty bitty bathrobes! How cute are they? Made from the absolute softest cotton plush, they monogram great. Can't you just imagine a cutey patootie all snuggled up in this after bath time? There are even little animal slippers to match!

It's all Cake....Baby

I had a bit of a frustrating start to the week. I went down to my car on Valentine's morning only to find that my driver's side window has been smashed and my ipod (which was actually hidden from sight) had been stolen. Oh...great, it's Valentine's Day & I don't have a boy and now I'm missing a window and an ipod.....poor me! At the beginning of this year, I gave my best friend Pamela and myself Gratitude Journals and challenged us both to write in them each day. It's pretty amazing when I take 5 minutes at the end of the day and write down things that I am grateful for that day, how it can totally change my attitude. So even on this day that was less than perfect, I was able to be grateful for the fact that I have a car to drive to a job that I love and that while I am currently not dating anyone special, I have the most wonderful friends and family who help make my life amazing. What a cool attitude adjustment!

Danielle has started making diaper cakes that are spectacular! Available in Small, Medium, Large & Grande, they can be customized for a boy or girl, and she can also incorporate many of the baby gifts we sell at the store into the design of the cake as well. These make wonderful centerpieces for baby showers and the diapers can all be used once the baby makes it's entrance.

Fabulous new robes for the Bride To Be. Customize them by putting her name on the front and having the most unique gift at the shower.

Boom Boom Cards arrived in Curtsyland this week. Become a cards carrying member of the Boom Boom Revolution! Do these 26 acts of guerrilla goodness and change the world. Each time you complete a card, give it away to someone else so the revolution doesn't end.

The website allows you to follow your Boom Boom Card as it travels around the world. You never know where your one act of kindness will end up! The cards come in regular or for teens.. We're just totally in love with the whole concept!!

Adorable new necklace line from the cutest couple! Jenny and Jimbob make the cutest line of necklaces in little decorated matchboxes. A great little Valentine's gift....for yourself!

Tomorrow is Shop For A Cause with 10% of our total sales being donated to the Northwest Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. My Aunt Carol suffered with this debilitating disease for many, many years, so this is a cause near and dear to my heart.

Long Time No See

Sorry that I've been lax on the blog front lately. January seemed to rush by in a blur with a week spent shopping in Atlanta and then a few days in Long Beach to learn more about Bella Barudan, our embroidery machine. Add to that the fact that it was time for Danielle & the Captain to send out their "Save the Date" cards and it was a busy month. Actually, in addition to the cards, they included a linen cocktail napkin that we embroidered with their initials and wedding date. We can get these linen napkins in a bunch of different colors and embroider them for any occasion.

You know that the Curtsy Girls love tiaras! We would wear them every day if we could get away with it. That's why we were thrilled to find a new source for all things tiara! Not only do we have this sparkly, pink Birthday Girl, we have tiaras for all the major
b-days 21, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 & 100. Too fun!!

"What in the World Did I Do Last Night"? That's the phrase uttered by Bachelorette Party Attendees on a regular basis. This nifty little book has more than 55 games for Sassy Bachelorette party fun. Perfect to play in the limo while sipping champagne and giggling!

Valentine's Day is upon us. A fun gift for your one and only Truth or Dare is a couple's game of passion. Dim the light, draw the curtains & let go of your inhibitions. So much more fun than dinner and a movie!

Back on Track!

It seems like forever since I have blogged. Since I normally write on Fridays and first Christmas and New Years hit on that day, and then we took off for the Atlanta Gift show. We're back and back on track now!

Other than the fact that it snowed in Atlanta the day we arrived and the temperatures were totally frigid the entire time we were there, it was a great trip. AmericasMart is bigger and better than ever. Three buildings with thousands of vendors, lots and lots of merchandise to tempt us and we think we choose all the best goods.

Danielle is slowly getting the Christmas goodies put away, but she has put a bunch of things on sale, trying to clear some room in the back for all the new finds that will soon be arriving. One of the most exciting sales is on the jewel encrusted Angel Fire Candles, which are now half off.

We have a slew of new cards, one of my favorite is to the left. It says "I just wanted you to know how much I enjoy hanging out with you" on the outside. Inside it says "Naked". Gotta love it!

Next week we are heading to Long Beach for a conference to further our training with Bella Barudan, our embroidery machine. We are signed up for all kinds of classes that will allow us to really expand this exciting new part of our business. We'll keep you updated with all of the new offerings.

It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

The Curtsy Girls love the holidays! Even though it means little sleep and lots of extra work, we really dig all the merriment this season brings. I hosted my annual
Christmas Cookie Decorating Extravaganza this week and it was a blast! This has been my tradition ever since my kids were little. I bake dozens of cookies, make many, many containers of different colors of icing, put all of it out on a big table and have the kids invite all their friends. As they have gotten older, the cookies have gotten so much funnier and more creative. Of course now that they are adults and able to imbibe a bit while they decorate, it seems to take the whole process to a new level.

Yesterday was truly a crazy day at Curtsyland. The store was really busy and Danielle had been hired by the owners of Franks Oysterhouse and Champagne Parlor, one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants,(www.franksoysterhouse.com)to create some of her custom poms for their holiday decorations. Of course when it was time to install them, and we both had to leave to do it, the store was crazy busy. Luckily, Curtsy Girl Pamela was here to handle the fray. We just posted one of our new Keep Calm and Carry On canvases in front of her :).

Speaking of custom creations, did you know that Curtsy Bella offers custom made Diaper Cakes? These make wonderful centerpieces/gifts for the mom to be. The one that is pictured above included some goodies from the store as gifts and then Danielle coordinated the colors with the baby shower colors for a stunning main attraction.

Time to Decorate

Hard to believe that Thanksgiving has come and gone. It seemed to fly by at light speed this year. It's always a nice break for us in the midst of the holiday madness. Danielle and the captain traveled to Olympia to be with his family this year and I went to son Josh's house. We always open up dinner at his house to anyone who would like to attend, and it's always such a wonderful mixture of people and delicious food. I was up bright & early this morning to get out of downtown before the parade began, so it's been a bit of a long day - I've been here since 6:30am. I had a few bags to finish monogramming and the quite before the riot was appreciated.

If you've been in Curtsyland lately, you've seen Danielle's magic at turning it into a beautiful winter wonderland. Shimmering silver glitter snowflakes hang from the ceiling and the trees are decked out in beautiful ornaments. I really love the new Pink Carriage & Eiffel Tower ornaments.

Winter Wonderland

Danielle has been a busy Curtsy Girl this week, transforming the store into a Winter Wonderland. Oodles of new merchandise has made it's way in the door, and it's all we can do not to take it all home ourselves. Course, since we pretty much live at the store this time of year, it's kinda like we already have. We were so thrilled to find awesome Hello Kitty Ornaments to hang on one of our pink trees. We even found some Hello Kitty Stockings to match. That glamour puss appeals to the girl in all of us - doesn't' she?

Hello November!!

It's been a week of transition at Curtsyland. The Halloween goodies have all been put on sale for 50% off, although that will only last for another day or two. Danielle has been busy transforming the store into a winter wonderland. We're absolutely loving the way the new Hello Kitty ornaments hangs on the pink tree.

We have so much fabulous new merchandise and it's just been like Christmas morning getting to un-pack it all. We do all of our holiday orders when we're at the New York Gift Show in August, so by the end of October and the beginning of November, we've forgotten what we ordered. One of our new favorites is the Terrorist Tea Pot. We DEMAND hot tea :).

When Danielle wanted to order the book Chuck Norris Vs Mr. T, I was skeptical. I mean, really? When it came in, I spent an hour in hysterics following her around the store reading from the book. Now I get it! Perfect gift for the guy in your life.

Important Sparkle Update!!!!

The Tarina Tarantino Trunk Show scheduled for November 14th, has been moved to Saturday, December 5th. Seems there have been some production delays at the Sparkle Factory in LA. We know it's disappointing to have to wait, but look at it this way, it gives you a couple more weeks to save up for Tarina fabulous-ness. Remember, the girls with the most sparkles wins!

Busy Week!

Busy week at Curtsyland! As the holiday season approached and we get busier in the store, you'll have to forgive the absence of new blogs. We are pretty religious about posting new things on Facebook every day, so if you're not a fan, become one now. Go on, I'll wait................

Ok, now that that is taken care of, onto the week in review. We've been running Bella Barudan non-stop, trying to finish up examples of all of our fabulous custom monograms. Everyone who has seen the personalized Emilie Sloan bags has ordered a couple for holiday gifts. They really do come out quite spectacular!

Wednesday night we hosted a private shopping event for the girl friends & wives of the Seattle Grizzlie players. Danielle made tissue pom pom wrist corsages for everyone which were totally adorable. We get asked frequently about hosting private events here at Curtsyland and we're happy to try to accommodate any group who is interested, just give us a call.

Halloween is a week from Saturday and one of our favorite holidays. Curtsyland is decked out in all her spooky finery with loads of glitter skulls and crows and candles. Make sure you stock up on all the goods to decorate for the big party we know you're throwing next week.

Look who showed up in the store this week! Carol & Max from Where the Wild Things Are! One of my favorite books ever! How can you not love something that has the sentence "let the wild rumpus start" in it?

Gremlins

Today has been officially named the Technology Gremlin Triumph Day! Seems like every piece of machinery or computer program that I have used today has given me fits! It actually took me about 20 tries to log into our blogger program this evening! And of course it's only fitting that the store has been crazy busy today. Sorry our blogging has been a bit off, but with the holidays fast approaching and the new embroidery machine up and running, there just don't seem to be enough hours in the day. We do usually manage to past something on Facebook every day, so if you need a daily Curtsy fix, that is the place to go.

Danielle has been busy making 2 Custom Diaper Cakes for a customer. She can make 3 & 4 tier cakes, customized to a particular color scheme or theme. You can add merchandise from the store to make it a bit fancier.

Spider Bite

It just amazes me what some people will do. We had a shoplifter in the store today and she got away with the Tarina Tarantino Spider Ring. Now, the Curtsy Girls are big believers in Karma and know that the universe will eventually punish her (maybe a black widow bite?), but it hurts nonetheless. We do have her on tape for viewing pleasure of the Seattle Police, so maybe they can help Karma along a bit.

This time of year, it's fun to decorate every room in the house. With the threat of Swine Flu on everybody's mind, it's important to get the little tykes to wash their hands. No problem when the Skull Soaps show up in the bathroom.

Speaking of decorating - these Velvet Skull Crystal Accent Pillows will be the focal point of any room. Not just for Halloween, show your rebel side to all who enter your abode.

Wicked

Curtsy Mama and I enjoyed a mother-daughter theatre night on the town with Curtsy Girl Pamela and her daughter this past Saturday. We saw Wicked, and it was absolutely divine!!!! I had never heard a bad review, and it did not disappoint in the least. It was a fantastically funny & fabulous take on the Witches of Oz and how they came to be...that is before some farm girl and her little dog arrived in the Emerald City. I adored the "Popular" number, during which Glinda decides she wants to make Elphaba (one day WWOTW) popular. It is set in their college dorm room in which Glinda has a wall of sparkly shoes....a girl after my heart. This of course gave us the perfect excuse to rock our new Tarina Tarantino "My Pretty" gems.I love love love this collection!!

The wedding plans are coming along beautifully...we have a date!!! Next August 7th will be the big day, at the Artic Club downtown....I fell head over heels for the amazing Northern Lights Dome room. It is a circular ball room with a gold gilded dome and gigantic chandelier....loves. The ring we have been designing is in production and should be done within a few weeks. We were very much inspired by this Tarina ring....... :)

Word around town is that pirates have been invading bath time!! Arrgh...if you can't beat 'em...join 'em, right?! Our new Wry Baby Bathe like a Pirate cotton hooded towel be just th' thing fer dryin' yer soggy booty an' keepin' ye from shiverin' yer timbers off! Great New Finds!!

The Curtsy Girls love this time of year!! The days get shorter (OK we don't love that) and fall is in the air. As it begins to cool off, most of us begin to spend a bit more time inside and our thoughts turn to making home a bit more inviting. The new Parfumerie Curiosite Travel Candles from Tokyomilk can help take care of that. Not only are they pretty to look at, but they burn wonderfully and gently scent the air.

This is also the time of year that our new fall merchandise begins to arrive and it's like Christmas every day! We frequently kinda forget what we ordered and it's just always so fun un-packing the boxes. One of my favorites are the new Jeweled Skull Pillows. My bedroom is done all in black, furniture, accents and linens and these will add just the bit of edgy sophistication I've been looking for.

Good Girl Gone Bad

The day got off to a bit of a slow start, which gave the Curtsy Girls time to catch their breath after 2 really busy days. Seems since everyone heard that the recession is "over", they have decided to come out shopping and we have been hopping! We are absolutely loving the new glassware that's gracing the shelves. I can think of several girlfriends who absolutely need the Single and Sexy Wine Glass. I'm thinking that even though I don't drink, I need the glass as well. After all, if we don't tell ourselves that we're sexy...who will?

Did you know that tomorrow, September 19th is Talk Like a Pirate Day? I kid you not, it was started by 2 guys many years ago and celebrated in obscurity until humor columnist Dave Barry picked up on it back in 2002, it's become pretty near a national holiday! They even have an official website http://talklikeapirate.com. Pretty funny!! For the little buccaneer in your life, we have this awesome new Ahoy Matey Divided Plate. What's totally genius about this plate is that is has a big suction cup on the bottom, so your little pirate can't dump his food all over the floor, causing you, to have to swab the deck.

Don't be scared off by the Husky football traffic this weekend. The game starts at 12:30 and from then until probably 4, it's absolutely delightful in the area. We have parking right in front of the store and loads of cool Halloween goods to trick out your place.

It's been a productive day at Curtsyland - the Captain came in to finish the graphics for a shirt he was making for one of the players on his Footy team commemorating his 100th game. He had to produce 5 custom graphics to embroider and it turned out truly spectacular. He then spent time this afternoon giving me lessons on the graphics program. I was able to create a custom graphic to embroider as well. After sewing out the sample of my creation, it's clear that it still needs a bit of work, but I'll share it with you as soon as I make it perfect.

For those who have been patiently waiting, Danielle has once again transformed the store into a Halloween wonderland. Silhouette votive holders & ornaments, glitter skulls in so many fun colors & spiderwebs are just a few of the scary treats that we have adorning the store. We're beginning to receive the merchandise ordered in New York, so as always, things are ever-changing at Curtsy Bella. Keeps us all from getting bored...right?

It's Gettin Creepy in Here!

Danielle has been hard at work trying to get the Halloween goodies out on the floor. Of course the way it works in our world is that the store can be completely dead, we bring out a ladder, climb it and voila....a store full of customers. Anyways, today, Old Funny Bones and Olde Crow made their debut at Curtsyland. With their cool top hats they remind me of some of the characters in the series I've gotten hooked on lately. Deadwood, was a show that aired on HBO several years ago. It's set in the 1870's in Deadwood, South Dakota. Started out a bit on the bloody side, but now that I'm into it, it's hard not to stay up way too late every night. These 2 characters would fit in perfectly!

The Don Vorhees book Disgusting Things is perfect for that hard to buy for person in your life. I was going to say that "hard to buy for guy", but this book is pretty fascinating (if not more than a little gross) and so I can't just limit it to the gentlemen. Did you know that "Japanese Researchers have succeeded in making the sweet smell of vanilla from one of the most offensive smelling things around - cow dung?" Then there's the chapter entitled Members Only - The Male Body, and let me tell you there is some fascinating stuff in there!

Softness in Stock

Curtsyland has been invaded! We received a shipment of the softest, sweetest most wonderful animal friends today. Truffles the Sheep comes in large and small sizes and is so adorable we can barely stand it (we're such suckers for soft, we've been hugging them ever since they arrived!) If I Were A Sheep is the perfect first book for a little one. Sturdy cardboard pages combined with different textures to feel, will make this a favorite.

Tomorrow, Danielle will begin the Curtsyland Creepification Process. She has all the new Halloween goodies ready to go in the back. One of our new favorites is the Jeweled Skull Pillow. Even though he'll be making his debut for the Halloween season, he'd be a very cool addition to to your couch all year long.
We were busy little bees this weekend working with the Captain to perfect the embroidery alphabets and monograms that we will be offering. The Emilie Sloan bags monogram really well and will make awesome personalized gifts for any occasion. We just received a large new shipment in, so we have a great selection to choose from.

A Wedding to Plan

Exciting things are happening in the Curtsy Girls lives right now. Several weeks ago (actually while we were in New York at the gift show) Danielle got engaged. The captain flew in to surprise her for her birthday and proposed while they were there as well. We didn't want to spread the word until all of the family members had been told. Last week they embroidered a special towel for the captain's mom and e-mailed her the above picture. Needless to say they received a very excited phone call from her a few minutes later.

The 3 of us had several appointments this morning to look at wedding venues, which was just so much fun! We were standing in one location and the coordinator was talking about the ceremony and I got a huge lump in my throat. I can't even imagine what kind of a mess I will be on the actual day! I'm just so happy for them both. They are a wonderful couple and I know they will have a fabulous and fun marriage.

They haven't yet picked a specific date, but it will be some time next summer. Now, anyone who's ever been in Curtsyland, knows how creative Danielle is, so she will be acting as her own wedding coordinator. She is also uber organized, so many pieces of the Mindy Weiss Wedding Collection will be pressed into service. The Accordion File is a great place to keep some of the many magazine cut outs that she is collection. The Response Organizer will be a real help when it comes to figuring out who's going to be able to join them on their special day. The captain has a huge family, so that alone will be quite a job.

Over the course of the next year, we'll be sharing lots of information and pictures of what is sure to be a special time in our lives.

Birthday Cape

Remember when you were little and it was your birthday? You wanted absolutely everybody to know that IT WAS YOUR SPECIAL DAY!!! The Birthday Cape will do just that. Sized just right for little Birthday Princesses, it has "Happy Birthday" and colorful pom poms sewn all throughout the cape.

The Itty Bitty Birthday Banner is the perfect size for decking out some one's cubicle, a party buffet or to just tuck into a birthday card. I always loved to decorate the breakfast table when my kids were little. Made them feel special right from the very beginning of the day.

We've been learning and experimenting with Bella Barudan, our new embroidery machine. The new Emilie Sloan Bags that we just received in monogram so well and look really beautiful. I've included pics of a couple of our early samples. We're in the process of adding some more monogram styles and should be up and running with monogramming the bags by next week.

Pretty Poms!!

Curtsyland has been crowded the past several days! Danielle, the captain, son Josh & myself have been crowded into the back room with our capable trainer Craig, learning the operation of our new Baurdan Embroidery/Monogramming Machine. Our heads are crammed full of information and we've even been able to produce some very cool sample pieces (pictures to follow next week). We'll soon be ready to offer personalization or monogramming on many of the items in Curtsyland.

If you've been in the store during the past month, you are sure to have noticed the giant Pom Poms that Danielle created to add color to some of our displays. We have been inundated with requests to sell them!! As you know that our main goal in life is to make our customers happy, we are now ready to do just that. They come in 3 sizes and are available to hang from the ceiling or mount on the wall, in a variety of colors and patterns.

It's the end of summer and even though they won't admit it, the kids are beginning to get bored. If you've got plans for that one last trip to the cabin, or camping before school, you may want to take along something to get their mind back into gear. Animated Origami will help them make birds with flapping wings, frogs that hop, teeth that chatter! A fluttering butterfly and a cleverly folded sycamore seed that spins through the air! This set contains 120 sheets of brightly coloured origami paper and a full-colour 24 page book with detailed folding instructions for 10 models. You might even find yourself having as much fun as the kids with this little box of coolness.

Our embroidery machine has arrived!!!! We are so very excited to start playing with it. Silly as it seems...being trained by a professional is a must before we start adorning everything in sight with initials & crowns & hearts & skulls. Said professional will be here at Curtsyland with us on Thursday & Friday. We will keep you all up to date as our thread skillz develop!

Something else to be excited for...Max, Bernard, Moishe & Sipi are coming to Curtsy Bella! Where the Wild Things are has always been an absolute favorite of mine. Curtsy Mama & I have been anxiously anticipating the Spike Jonze film adaptation, which comes out in October I believe. We have the book and all of the characters on their way to the store, so stay tuned.

Such Delicious Finds!!

We got back from New York last night, about 8 hours ahead of our luggage! Kudos to Danielle for waiting up for it, I was just too tired to care. We had a fabulous time at the New York Gift Show and wrote oodles of orders for so many new lusts. It was Danielle's B-day on Saturday, the day we left and the Captain had told her that one of her presents ended up getting shipped late and was going to be delivered to her in New York. Imagine her surprise when the "gift" turned out to be the Captain himself! He had been planning this little surprise for months (I was his willing accomplice) and after spending all day Saturday and Sunday training with his Army Reserve Unit, he hopped on the red-eye and flew all night to arrive in New York on Monday morning. It was so much fun having him shop with us and getting a guy's opinion on things.

One of the categories of things that we were on the lookout for were items that can be monogrammed. We have purchased a commercial embroidery machine and will soon be able to personalize many of the items in the store. We found lots of new goods that were a great price and will make perfect gifts to have customized by the Curtsy Girls & Boys. The machine is scheduled to arrive on Monday, so Danielle has been re-organizing the back room to find a corner to put it in. We're pretty excited about this new addition to Curtsyland.

We also have to take a moment to give kudos to our newest Curtsy Girl, Jordan. She looked after the store while we were gone and did an absolutely amazing job!!

I'm happy to report that while we were gone, our newest shipment of the the Victorian Lace Bustier Sets arrived. We have the original teal set that has sold out almost as soon as we put them out and the same set in a midnight blue.

We're Going Shopping!!

Tomorrow is Danielle's B-Day and it also happens to be the day we are leaving to fly to New York to attend the gift show. She happy that we get in early enough that she will have time to visit all of her favorite little boutiques and spend her birthday money. As you can imagine, it's pretty tough finding things for her as we are always shopping together and most things that we love we order for the store. I wouldn't dare buy clothes for her anymore, but cash seems to fit just right. The only bad part about tomorrow is that our flight leaves at 6AM. At least the Starbucks at the airport open at 4:30 (Curtsy Mama gets a bit grumpy when denied her morning java fix!).

As she is celebrating the sequel to her 25th birthday this year, I bought a little fruit tart from Metro Market this morning and put the appropriate Tops Malibu number sparklers in the top. This little gems make even a single cupcake extra special.

Have a friend you want to give a sweet little treat to, but don't want to blow their diet or make them eat forbidden things? Give them one of our "cupcakes". We originally brought these in to display the different styles of Cupcake Wrappers that we carry. Our customers have figured out that they make adorable in-expensive little gifts.

Well, that's about all for tonight - I still have a gazillion things to do to get ready to leave. The store will be open normal summer hours while we are gone - Monday - Saturday 10AM - 6PM and Sunday 11AM - 5PM.

Karma

I was catching up on some book work last week and realized that the bank had made a $9,000 error in our favor. Several (back in March)months ago I had transferred some money from our credit line to our checking account and I realized that while they had transferred the money to our checking account, they never posted it to our credit line. Being a big believer in Karma (it makes me really, really honest)I had to point it out to them. You know they didn't even bother to say thanks, or send me a thank you fruit cake for catching their error? Oh well, c'est la vie!

One of the Curtsy Girls has a birthday this week and it's not me! Danielle is celebrating her B-day on Saturday, the day we fly to New York for the gift show. I think we're going to have her wear this tiara to the airport, so maybe they'll give us a free upgrade to 1st class. After all, maybe a wee bit of good karma is headed our way - right?

Just arrived, the most divine, funnest collection of Glam Girl Glasses. Just think of how very fabulous and fancy you can look while sporting a pair of these. We are especially fond of the ones that have the rose colored lenses - it really does make everything look so much better!

I've had an awesome week! On Tuesday I was invited to drive over to Eastern Washington and go fly fishing on the Yakima River. I used to absolutely LOVE to fly fish (Curtsy Mama has many interesting, quirky layers) and haven't been able to do any since starting the store. I actually caught 8 fish...impressed? Don't be - the biggest one was 5"! Doesn't matter - I got to spend the day out in some beautiful country on the water - and my tan looks fabulous as well.

Are you a good witch? Of course you are! Tell the world with the new Good Witch Cameo from Tarina Tarantino. We also received the matching sparkly Good Witch Cameo with Aurora Bubble Beads (they look like the bubble she floats around in!)

You know us Curtsy Girls - always changing and re-arranging Curtsyland to keep things interesting. We're getting ready to head off to the New York International Gift Show next week and we have to make room for the oodles of new goodies that we'll be ordering. We've been quite busy with the red pen this afternoon, marking sale prices on lots of frilly things - come in and check it out!

Hard Cards

Hope you all had a divine Seafair weekend! Seeing as my tan is still peeling from too many days of baking during our Potholes trip....I was not quite ready for more drinking in the sun on a boat. The Captain and I set out on Sunday to see about getting my new tattoo fixed :( You seeeeee.......my brother and I got the itch while in Paris to get some tattoo souvenirs before leaving. We sought out one of the few tattoo parlors open on our last day, Bastille Day. The artist, Rico, didn't speak much English, but we were able to communicate enough by drawing out what we wanted. We gave him a few hours to prepare the artwork & supplies. I was going to get two little tattoos....however I wasn't head over heels for his art skillz when we returned....Rico was not, in fact, suave. I decided to just get a little heart on my finger.

Now I must confess I am a bit of an obsessive compulsive hand washer (especially when in other countries)...but for a good three days I tried to keep a band-aid & vaseline on it to protect it during the day. After about five days, the top of one side looked different. Upon closer inspection....my little black heart was straight up scabbing & falling off. The remnants of my heart from Rico in Paris will soon be repaired by the experts at Slave to the Needle.

Paris By Night

I'm having the best time this afternoon watching the Blue Angels practice. We have a great view from the store and this year, I was able to see a lot of the show. One of these days I'm going to get to take in their entire show and I can't wait - they are just so amazing!!

It's been over a week since we returned from our European adventure and it's such fun getting to tell our friends and customers about our adventures. It was such fun being in Paris on Bastille Day. In addition, it was the 120th anniversary of the Eiffel Tower. The line of people waiting to go up the tower was really, really long, so we elected not to go up. Even though I'm an ex-pilot, I have a horrible fear of heights and the last time I was in Paris only made it to the mid-point of the tower before chickening out and returning to terra firma, so I wasn't too upset. Even though I'm not a fan of ascending the giant structure, I love wearing jewelry that features the monument. The Enamel Eiffel Tower Bracelet by La Vie Parisienne is one of my favorites. The sleek black enamel has a tiny line of gold framing the outside of the bracelet and the tower sparkles with tiny jewels, the whole thing reminiscent of a night in Paris.

As the store gets busier and our time gets spread thinner, we have elected to make a wee change to the blog. We will still be writing posts, but instead of daily blogs, it will be several times a week. As our loyal blog readers know, we have a Facebook page that we post goodies on every day, so become a Cursty Bella fan and get the scoop updated to your personal page on a daily basis.

Glad to be back at Curtsyland today!

After the long trek back from Europe, I got only two (rather sleepless) nights in our bed before the Captain and I were off to our annual Potholes camping trip. We so look forward to this trip, and the Captain's sister & brother-in-law go all out to make it amazing & memorable. We always do a dress-up theme night. The first year we went, we did Talladega Nights. Last year was just general costumes...we were the pregger kids from Juno, there was also Pam & Kid Rock in attendance, as well as Marge & Homer Simpson. This year, in addition to white trash theme night, we all needed to play Olympians in the official 1st annual Potholes Beach Beer Olympics...

The games were supposed to take place on Saturday. However...the Olympians proved very talented at drinking mass amounts of yucca juice, and we never made it to the opening ceremonies. Not much worries us when at Potholes, so the Olympics were postponed until Sunday morning when said Olympians were semi-sober, and we jumped in our white trash garb after the medal ceremony. Us ladies left most of the beer drinking events to the men....we had to compete in the bedazzled formal swimwear competition! I went with an ocean theme...I made a bikini top out of two rubber crabs that I glittered & jeweled. My bottoms were ocean blue with glitter sand lining the top, adorned with sparkly sea shells, a jeweled octopus, and glittered jellyfish & seaweed hanging off my hips. My jeweled crabs won me the title of Ms Potholes 2009!!

New goodies from Tokyomilk arrived while we were away! Divine bottles of bubble bath are a new addition to the line. Each bottle has one of the gorgeous images that Tokyomilk has come to be known for printed on the inside of the back label, so it appears magnetized in the bottle. We also received some new flavors of the bon bon lip balms. I love the Honey Blossom!

EEK! The Boss is Back!

If any of you have ever wondered who's the real boss here at Curtsyland, it's Danielle. It's because of her attention to detail (and her creative genius) that the store always looks so wonderful each time you visit. After we returned from our 2 week trek through Europe, she had one day in town (I wouldn't let her come in to the store on that day) and then took off for another week to go on an annual camping trip with the Captain and his family. She's due! She worked so much overtime last summer when my mom was ill and never once complained. I have spent the week trying to dig out my desk from the mounds of paperwork that piled up when I was gone and doing all of our second quarter tax reports - in other words, big, big fun! What I haven't been doing is spending much time cleaning, so today, it's been crank up the music, dance a bit (makes cleaning much more fun) and try to make the store at least presentable when she returns tomorrow.

I tell you, jet lag absolutely KILLED me last week. I'm normally an early riser, but I was waking up every morning at 3AM, wide awake and ready to go. By 8:30 at night, I can't keep my eyes open! Thank god for my Mary Green Sleep Mask. It has made it so much easier to fall asleep when the sun is still up. I think that finally today, I'm over the hump.

Seafair's coming! Reading about all the activities of the next week has put me in a nautical frame of mind. I think I'm going to grab one of the Sailor Jerry Anchor Bandannas and walk up to the Torchlight Parade tomorrow night. It's only a couple of streets away from where I live and I've never experienced it before.

I've heard about the infamous Seafair Pirates and their antics. So I thought it would be fitting to throw some pirate booty into today's blog. I loves me this Crossbones Beer Mug ...arrrr! It come in it's own treasure chest to insure it stays safe from the rest of the crew.

I imagine that the captains berth in a pirate ship has some finely crafted tables to hold his bounty. Even the tough guys would probably want to keep the wood nice by using this cool Skull & Crossbones Coaster. What, you don't think pillagers like nice things too? I've had all kinds of "first timers" (or Curtsy Virgins as I like to call them) in the store today. There is nothing that thrills us more than to have someone new discover the wonders of Curtsyland. The only advertising we're doing these days is our monthly Shop for a Cause events and word of mouth. We are always so appreciative when customers share the fabulous shopping karma they get at Curtsy Bella with their friends. I've had lots of people in here today looking for just a little gift to give someone. In today's tough economy, our customers love that they can find gifts in all price ranges here and they love even more our complimentary gift wrap.

Little Glitter Heart Purses are the just the right size for a night on the town. Small enough to stick into your jeans pocket with your ID and a bit of cash, they're also pretty enough to tuck into a evening bag. Add to that the fact that they come in all sorts of delicious glittery colors and they make the perfect little gift for someone.

Walking the streets of Paris, we encountered so many cute little antique shops with all sorts of treasures displayed in their windows. Unfortunately, as we were there on Bastille Day, many of them were closed, but we loved window shopping. These new little Ceramic Paris Letter Trays are the perfect place to stow your jewelry at the end of the day. A few of them scattered around the living room with candles burning on them would set the scene for bit of romance. Maybe you'll be inspired to write your own love letters.

We're Back!!!

We're doing our best today to recover from a long day of travel yesterday. Twenty one hours on the road with 16 of those in the air makes for 3 people who are so very glad to be back in Seattle. Our trip was fabulous. It was just so much fun to travel with both of my kids, who are now adult - we found that we all have pretty similar travel styles which made for a really great trip. London, Paris, Milan, Florence and Rome were our destinations and each one held it's own allure. In each city we spent many hours walking and exploring. All of the walking helped burn up all of the extra calories that we were eating. Gordon Ramsay's restaurant in London, lots of crepes, cheese, pate & bread in Paris, pasta & gelato in Italy - there's truly nothing like eating your way through Europe.

We took the Chunnel Train under the English Channel from London to Paris. From Paris to Milan we boarded a sleeper. Our tiny compartment had just enough room for each of our suitcases on the floor. There were 3 bunks, one on top of the other and a ladder to get up to the top 2. With the luggage on the floor and the ladder going up to the bunks, it was quite an adventure getting out the door of the compartment to head to the WC. Trying to change our train tickets from Milan to Florence was an adventure in itself, especially when none of us spoke Italian and most of the train agents didn't speak English but we made it without getting tossed of the train.

We did have one glitch on our last day in Italy. We had finished a wonderful lunch at one of the al fresco cafes that are everywhere in Rome and they brought us a plate of little cookies. Danielle took one bite of a cookie when we realized that it contained pine nuts. She's seriously allergic to pine nuts! Poor thing was pretty miserable for the rest of the day, but at least she didn't eat enough to have to go to the hospital. It was a bit of a challenge making the Italian pharmacist (who spoke no English) understand that I needed antihistamine pills - thank god for my mini dictionary.

I came back this morning to find a beautifully clean and organized store - thanks to Pamela & Heather for all their hard work while we were gone. Thanks also to the Captain who filled in last Friday. We are just so lucky to have such wonderful people in our Curtsy Corner!

Some wonderful new Madam & Monsieur Napkin Rings arrived while we were gone. Reminiscent of some of the many little out of the way cafes we visited while in Paris, these will add that special touch to any table.

And We're Off!!

The Curtsy Girls along with son/brother, Josh, will be departing tomorrow for a well deserved 2 week vacation. During that time, the store will be staffed by the fabulous Pamela and Heather. Our store hours for the rest of this month will be Monday through Saturday from 10AM - 6PM and on Sunday from 11AM - 5PM. While we're gone, the blog will be on hold, but we'll be updating our Facebook page with pictures as we travel to London, Paris, Milan, Florence and Rome.

My Pretty....

A shipment of new Tarina Tarantino earrings arrived today....along with the My Pretty collection book, which we have been anxiously awaiting. And it does not disapoint....such eye candy! This look book and collection have been receiving lots of wonderful press....see reviews on Nylon, Perez Hilton, and Fashionista. It features Kelly Osbourne & Debi Mazar, as well as newcomer Holly Owens, this beautiful poster-size book features Dorothy's journey through a sparkling technicolor world. The earrings we received are new colors in the now classic filigree flower chandelier earrings. I didn't take a picture of the new ones before leaving the store...sorry! The flowers are black diamond - as shown - but the lucite chandelier teardrop beads come in the updated colors of juicy lime and yummy strawberry pink. Perfect to accessorize that summer dress with the nice weather we have been having....

Emerald Dreams

Loving the color emerald right now....we just received the Frilly Frills garter skirt & bra in the gorgeous gem color. Could it be because I am so excited for the Tarina Tarantino Wizard of Oz collection?? We should get our first shipment within the next few weeks and the collection has lots of emerald, natch. Or it could it be that I have visions of spending lots of money in Europe?? Most of you know that Curtsy Mama, myself & my brother are heading across the pond on the 7th, and will be over there for two weeks. (Have never been away from Curtsyland for more than a week.....eeek!!) I just discovered today that we will be in Paris during Les Soldes...the summer sales!!!! Apparently, sales in France are regulated by law and must begin and end on dates specified by the government. Les Soldes take place in January into February, & June into July...lasting about six weeks. What divine serendipity!!!

Back to Tarina....head over heels for the new vintage flower post earrings and matching ring. The earrings are so fantastically large in size as far as post earrings go. The ring features the same lucite flower in the center, surrounded by tulle petals. Also adoring the chandelier earrings in the new tangerine color. This earring has become a favorite with Curtsy customers...they are dazzling....

The Weddings are Over!

Sorry we missed blogging on Friday. I took last Thursday and Friday off to help Curtsy Girl Pamela with her daughter Katie's wedding. With the marriage of Curtsy Girl Heather the weekend before where Danielle helped with decorating the venue, we have been a bit preoccupied. Happy to report that both ceremonies went off without a hitch and both brides were so beautiful.

You know that at Curtsyland we like to change things up on a regular basis. Danielle decided that it was time for a major re-arrangement this week and totally remodeled the front of the store. We was inspired, in part, by the adorable miniatures from the new Wendy Addison Collection that came in. Made of cardboard in vintage designs, the table and chairs will add a bit of whimsy to any room. Add one of the larger chairs, chaise lounges or chandeliers for a more striking grouping.

Tattoo art is still hot. The Tattoo Diaper Bag is the perfect size for a day out at the park, or on a boat. Plenty of room for diapers, wipes, bottles and change of clothes. In addition to all that is is just a cool looking bag for those hip parents in your life.

So much sad news today...:( RIP to the divine Farrah Fawcett & the ever intriguing Michael Jackson. (Whoever will we get to see rockin' Christophe Decarnin's Balmain on a regular basis?! We always have Rihanna I suppose...but I will miss MJ.) What a Week!!

Patience....normally I possess a lot of it. I mean I used to teach people how to fly airplanes and you need infinite patience for that job. The universe seems to have conspired to rob me of that particular virtue this week. It began on Monday when I came out to my car after work to find my driver's side mirror smashed to bits! Luckily, the guilty party left me a note - great!! My schedule this week is really tight and after driving a mile without that mirror, I knew I had to get it repaired asap! I called the note leaver Monday night, left him a nice message (really, I was very pleasant) and on Tuesday figured out how to squeeze in an extra hour to drive to the mechanics to get the part ordered. Last night, left the guy another message - still hadn't heard from him. This morning after still not hearing from him, I left a rather forceful message, sharing my disappointment and telling him that I truly hoped he wasn't blowing me off. Finally he calls me back, telling me I was pretty quick to judge him (huh?- after 3 phone calls?) and that he had every intention of paying.....whatever! Had to squeeze in another hour today to get the mirror installed - yippee! Add this fiasco to about 6 others that have threatened to destroy my sunny disposition and you have my week, and it's only Wednesday!! Luckily, I'm taking the next 2 days off to help Curtsy Girl Pam with her daughter's wedding.

At least we received some really cute glassware in the store this afternoon and that has brightened my attitude a bunch! Loving the new Pilsner Glasses that celebrate milestone birthdays. It's always nice to give the celebrant something they can actually use and I think these glasses will get used all the time. We've got them for 21st Birthday, 30th, 40th, 50th & 60th. Maybe the birthday boy or girl isn't a beer drinker. Not to worry, we have wine glasses in the same vein and a few extra designs as well. My favorite is the one that says Change du Life and then on the bottom of the label it says Hot with complex characteristics. Women of a certain age will get this one :)

This past Sunday, our divine Curtsy Girl Heather was married! It was a beautiful, intimate ceremony held at The Bohemian in West Seattle. Her & her handsome are off honeymooning now, but just wanted to send the new Mr. & Mrs. best wishes one more time!!

A messy little surprise arrived from Fred & Friends in the form of forensics for the kitchen. Some of the most popular cards in the store shoot f-bombs out there. So popular that we frequently run out before the next order comes in. I'm happy to say that we received a new shipment of everyone's favorite card - Happy Fucking Birthday. The older I get, the more I love this card! A new one from our friends at 16 Sparrows is Shut Up Crybaby -pretty sure this one is going to be another one that's tough to keep in stock.

The Curtsy Girls are going on vacation to Europe in 2 weeks! Curtsy Mama hasn't taken a real vacation in over 10 years. Any free time I had was spent visiting my aging mom. Since we lost her last fall, I've decided to take both of my kids to Europe. We're flying into London, then heading down to Paris, Milan, Florence and flying home from Rome. We'll be posting entries on Facebook during the time we are gone. The store will be manned by our intrepid Curtsy Girls Pamela and the newly married Heather. Last time I was in Paris, I only made it half way up the Eiffel Tower and my extreme fear of heights forced me back to terra firma (pretty funny for an ex-pilot...yes?). The bigger the better

This past Sunday...the Captain and I attended the Kangaroo & Kiwi's annual Day at the Races. The Kangaroo & Kiwi is a fantastic Aussie & Kiwi pub in town that is also the sponsor of the Captain's Aussie rules Footy team. This is their seventh year doing a day trip down to Emerald Downs - our first year joining in. We heard from past year participants that everyone gets a little fancy and that no trip to the tracks is complete without a hat. We also got word that there might possibly be a crowning of a "Queen of the Track." I currently hold two other K&K crowns...Queen of Aurora & Ugly Christmas Sweater Queen. In order to secure the triple crown...I needed to find the biggest, fanciest hat. I set out searching through every vintage & antique store in town, every hat store, every possible place I could think of to buy a hat. Hats not quite big enough for what I had in mind kept presenting themselves. I picked up a pink one at one vintage store as a backup, and never ended up finding anything else as time was running out. I still knew that I wasn't going to be satisfied with this topper as is, so I set off to the craft store...

The end result certainly garnered much attention at the track. I had strangers wanting their picture taken with me and admirers who thought the flowers adorning myself & the hat were real...wouldn't that have been divine! My new Tarina Tarantino vintage resin flower ring matched the outfit so perfectly. And since I couldn't see much from underneath my hat...I was happy to have such a lovely gem to look at all day. Katy Perry was recently rocking this ring as well...

The owner of the K&K ended up sponsoring a race this year, and asked myself and our own K&K "jockey" to come watch the race from the winners circle with him and have our picture taken with the winning horse...meaning I did indeed get the crown of fanciest at the races.

Dad's Day is Fast Approaching!

The first Father's Day is always especially fun for the new dad. Dress his little darling in this cool new My Dad Rocks onesie from Sourpuss.

In this day and age, it's not unusual to hear about a single guy doing the fatherhood bit on his own. It was love at first sight for us with this t-shirt and we know he'll flip for it as well.

It was a tough weekend at Curtsyland as we had to put our little store dog, Snickers, to sleep. We adopted Snickers in 1995 when he was 6 weeks old. He peed in Danielle's lap on the way home from the pet store, then looked up at her with those sweet Beagle eyes and we were hooked! When he was 4 years old and I was going through my divorce, he came to live with me. For the past 10 years, he has been my constant companion. He was definitely not an easy dog, but no matter what trouble he had gotten into, he would look at me with those sad eyes and I would just melt! Through 2 cross country moves and lots of changes in our lives, he was always there at the end of the day, hogging the bed. Towards the end he was not only hogging the bed, he would snore and fart like the old man he was and if I had the audacity to complain...you guessed it - he'd look at me with those eyes and I'd just have to offer up another treat. Poor guy was almost 14 and was fighting several serious medical conditions. Despite heavy medications, his pain level was not getting any better. In the end, I just couldn't let him suffer anymore. He was a great friend and we miss him terribly. Dr. Sarah Barnhardt and the entire staff at Ravenna Animal Hospital took such amazing care of him and I am so very grateful.

Guilty!!!!

We are doing the happy dance at Curtsyland today. The man that burglarized our beloved store in February of 2007, was finally found guilty of the crime today. The Oz in Tarina's eyes...

So much Tarina Tarantino love in Curtsyland this week as we just received another shipment of the Spring/Summer collection. All of you cult TT followers will remember that last fall she designed a limited edition Wizard of Oz collection, which immediately sold out. The collection featured drawn representations of each character on Tarina's signature cameos. This summer, Tarina & Warner Bros. partnered up to celebrate the 70th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz. All of the jewels in this collection, titled My Pretty, have actual stills from the classic...they are amazing. We have already seen the full collection and have our orders in...first delivery should be in July with more to follow in August.

Yesterday, Tarina teamed up with FIDM (my alma mater :)) and Warner Bros. to celebrate the collection and release of the My Pretty campaign book, and to present the Inspirations of Oz Fine Art Exhibition at the Museum at FIDM. The event was complete with a yellow brick carpet and "Ozmopolitans" to sip on.

The My Pretty campaign book arrived in our inbox yesterday...by far the chicest Wizard of Oz trip I've ever been taken on ;) We will receive a hard copy of the look book along with our first shipment in July. It is too big to post everything on the blog, so I picked a few of my favorite images to share with you. I was in sparkle heaven looking through it...absolutely stunning images...

Included in the TT goodness that arrived today are the butterfly necklace & earrings that you can spot in the rainbow & lollipop images above. The size of the butterfly post earrings are fantastically large. Perfect to complement the nice weather we are finally having!

UW graduation is this weekend! Curtsyland has been buzzing with people trying to find the perfect way to say congrats to the smarty pants in their life. Definitely proven to be a favorite gift this year as our stock is quickly depleting....the Class of 2009 wine glasses. Perfect thing to send them off with for their big night of celebrating! ;) And to make the gift even more fabulous...give them a bottle of the good stuff to fill the glass with and adorn it with a removable wine label from Cerebral Itch. We have graduation specific ones in....my favorite one reads "I just looked up the salary ranges for your major and I have to say, you've made a bold and courageous choice,"...back reads "with that said, Congratulations Graduate."

The first time I saw Poof Balls by was at the manufacturer's booth at the new York Gift Show. It was our first show and I wouldn't order these even though the owner told me it was one of their best sellers. Fast forward several months and the owner of the company was in town and gave me several packages to try in the store. Not only did they fly off the shelf, but one slow afternoon, Danielle and I tried them out ourselves. I can't remember when I've laughed so hard. Same concept as the spitballs kids used to shoot at each other across the classroom, except these are clean and dry. Many of our customers buy several packages and empty all the balls and shooters into a big bowl as a centerpiece. Party goers soon figure out what to do and the fun follows!

It does seem to be the time of year when there are lots of birthdays. One of our favorite activity kits is the Pin the Parrot on the Pirate Game. What's great about this game is there are no pins involved! There are 32 reusable parrot stickers and a real cloth blindfold, so even after the party's over, the family can play. Yo ho ho!!

The Tarina Tarantino City Girls: Los Angeles collection arrived yesterday....so in love. I have especially been anxiously awaiting the Pistol Clutch...it's to die for ;) We ordered three of them...one for moi, two for you...but only received one. I just about cried...it is a limited edition and already sold out. It took all my might to put the precious one on the sales floor. It is out though and available to go home with a tres lucky chica. No saying how long 'til I change my mind though...you've been warned.

The collection also includes a bullet necklace to complement the kick-ass bag...complete with a bow on top and a black Swarovski crystal at the base. If only all bullets were so pretty. Also, a Zipper Rosette Anywhere Clip. I am totally gaga for all things zipper adorned right now (Versace had some amazing zipper adorned pieces for S/S 2009).

And last but not least...the City Girl L.A. Baroque Pendant necklace. Tarina's L.A. girl is covered in tatts and rocking some Tarina bling, natch. She is adorned with the City of Angels star necklace and a long cross pendant, and her tattoos include a sugar skull & a Sparkle script.

Hot, Hot, Hot!!

I am totally frustrated this afternoon. I've dropped something down to the bottom of my file cabinet and I have spent an hour trying to figure out how to remove the drawer. I'm usually a pretty handy girl, but it has me stumped. I've gone on to the company's website hoping I'm not the only klutz, and apparently I am, because they have no instructions for removing a drawer. I'm sure it originally came with instructions, but who saves files cabinet instructions :)?

I just took a break from cursing the file cabinet to take Snick dog outside and I have to say it's damn hot out there! When the temperature soars and the amount of clothing that you wear shrinks to a minimum, you can still look hot with new summer accessories from Tarina Tarantino. Just off the truck today are these Vintage Resin Dahlia Post Earrings. They're embellished with Swarowski Crystals for that extra bit of bling we love so well.

Father's Day is fast approaching. We know that even in laid back Seattle, many dads still are required to wear a tie. Graduates, this is the month when everyone is scurrying trying to find just the right gift. I love the Success Window Card Collection. A nifty little box filled with 30 days worth of inspiration. The Curtsy Girls have Friday fever! It's just soooo nice outside and we're wishing we were out playing in the sun. At least we have a new box of goodies to distract us from our weekend dreams of wanderlust!

Tattoo artist Mitch O'Connell is the talent behind our new flasks & cases. We've heard his work described as "cute animals doing bad things" and we think that pretty much sums it up. A tipsy poodle and one cute smokin kitty are sure to draw attention when you pull either one of these out of your bag.

So head over heels for our newest lingerie arrivals! Ruffles & pretty spring colors aplenty. Many of said lingerie pieces are hanging in the antique steamer trunk I just scored for Curtsyland. I have always wanted one and I came across this one in great condition and a great price. I didn't get it upon first discovery, but never stopped thinking about it. I went back wishing & hoping no one had snagged it....the divine Vintage & Antique Gods must have been looking out for me as it was still there & the dealer was having a 50% off sale.

The Flirty Frills collection from Carrie Amber Intimates is properly named. Each piece is certainly flirty & frilly...& fun & fantastic & fabulous &....is sure to make any fella flush with excitement ;) The collection includes a ruffled garter skirt, a ruffle bra, and a ruffle gartered slip with matching thong...all in a perfect peach color.

We just brought the StockinGirl line in to Curtsyland. The nude fishnet with nude lace top will look fabulous with the peach Flirty Frills!

Celebrate!!

Milestone birthdays are always a big deal, both for the person celebrating and for all of his or her friends. Danielle spent the day unpacking a new selection of Love My Martini glasses that arrived. There is a glass to mark some of the big milestones - Thirtish, Forty Something, Fifty and Fabulous and Sixty is Sexy. The glass will become a cherished reminder of a memorable celebration.

Of course we don't want to forget the all important milestone of turning that magic age of 21! The Twenty-One Shooter Glass is a bit different from the standard coming of age gifts. Colorful, fun and small enough to be tucked in a purse - just remember to tell the recipient that if she's going to use the glass out on the town to remember to use a designated driver. (Sorry to preach - it's the mother in me!)

I am single and I have a group of my best buds that are single as well. Jumping back into the dating scene when you've been out of it for a while is, um...lets say challenging. Several other adjectives come to mind, but we'll just leave it at challenging. When one of your bff's finally finds the right one, we have the perfect card. Goodbye Mr. Wrong from the funny folks at Naughty Betty pretty much says it all. For the rest of us, we can only hope....

Always tough to get back in the swing of things after a long weekend. Getting to play with new goodies from Fred & Friends certainly helps though! I have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of their new Lit candles...I have quite a few peeps in my life that will appreciate these gems on their birthday cake instead of boring 'ol regular candles. I don't believe they smell authentic...but no matter as they are perfectly rolled.

Another favorite from the new Fred shipment...the Sword'oeuvres. You know those mini martini swords that we all adore getting stocked with yummy olives or cherries in our dirty's or shirley's?!! Well, the fun folks at Fred have made them jumbo & perfect for spreading the goods at your next shindig. Food-safe and re-usable, you get four per package...sure to stir up some fun ;)

Happy Memorial Day!

Happy Memorial Day! What an amazing weekend, it's just so beautiful out there!
Danielle has today off, so the Snick dog and I are hanging here at Curtsyland.

Wedding season has definitely begun. In fact we have 2 weddings involving Curtsy Girls coming up in June. Curtsy Girl Pam's daughter, Katie, is getting married and Curtsy Girl Heather is tying the knot as well - all within a week of each other. They have both been raiding the wedding section in preparation for the big day.

One of the favorites this season are the "I Do" Rhinestone Shoe Appliques by Mindy Weiss. They are great for insuring the bride wears something blue. I wasn't sure where the tradition of wearing blue came from so I've done a bit of research this afternoon. In ancient Rome, brides wore blue to symbolize love, modesty and fidelity. Christianity has long dressed the Virgin Mary in blue, so the color also symbolizes purity. Now ya know!

Last night I found out where all the business men hang out when they visit Seattle. We went to dinner at Ipanema Brazilian Grill on 1st Avenue, and there they all were. Seriously, tables full of hungry guys. This place is quite a trip - it includes an amazing veggie buffet and then all the meat you can eat. Served continuously by their "chefs" or "passadores", brought to you in skewers and carved to order tableside. I was with Danielle and the captain and my son, Josh and I don't think I've ever seen 2 guys eat so much protein in one sitting! What amazed me most was how tender and perfectly cooked everything was. A fun place to go!!

We've just added the cutest Tie Onesie from local company Mac and Me. Perfect for the future executive. She also does a set of matching burp cloths - finally some cute stuff for the new boy humans out there!

For current executives, we've got the new Golf's Greatest Practical Joke Kit. Golfers, they're a different breed. I mean anyone who would chase a little white ball around 18 holes has got to be a bit different - right? Actually, my mom was an AVID golfer and she tried and tried and tried to get me to like the game, but never succeeded. Anyhoo...this kit will help the duffer in your life add a bit o fun to the game. Baby Tattoos

I finally got a sunny day off yesterday and was able to wash my car....Mondays seem to be perpetually icky. Of course today the rain returned and spotted up my pretty car. Mother Nature best have good things in store for us for the holiday weekend....we deserve it! ;) Sunshine arrived for the baby section today from Sourpuss Clothing. Oodles of adorable onesies, diaper bags, feeding sets, and shoes are in just in time for the bundles of cuteness arriving soon...

My favorite onesie has an image of a cute flying pig...the script reads Sleep when Pigs Fly. All the onesie styles that arrived are tattoo inspired....ones for Lil' Rockers, Baby Lucks, & Heartbreakers. All will look adorable with the tattoo flash baby shoes, adorned with classic sparrows, horseshoes, stars and hearts.

Also from Sourpuss, feeding sets for baby that include a plate, bowl and spoon. The bowl has the image of an I Love Mommy sacred heart, and the plate has an I Love Daddy anchor. Discoveries

I had yesterday off and my favorite thing to do, as I've mentioned before, is to walk and explore. I made several awesome discoveries in yesterday's travels. You have to understand that since I moved here 4 years ago, I have worked - ALOT and have not had time to enjoy all this grand city has to offer. My first find was Myrtle Edwards and Elliot Bay Parks. What a fabulous place to walk - right on the sound with a spectacular view of the Olympics! Truly - it just doesn't get much better than that! My other quest yesterday, was to head over to Molly Moon's Ice Cream Shop http://www.mollymoonicecream.com/. Molly was in the store on Saturday and I got to meet her. She told me how very fabulous her ice cream was, so I simply had to check it out. The end to my perfect Sunday was to have Salted Carmel Ice Cream with homemade Hot Fudge Sauce. Just thinking about it now is making my mouth water. There are 2 Molly Moon locations, one on 45th Street in Wallingford and one on Pine Street up in Capital Hill. Definitely worth the wait in the inevitable line.

New art arrived today- kind of tiny, but quite stylish. This art is in the form of matchboxes, or art for your coffee table as I like to call them! We all have collections of great candles sitting around waiting to be lit, now you can stack a few of these matchboxes ready to provide the flames. A collection of a few of these stuck on the wall also makes an unusual little, inexpensive, grouping.

I've been stuck at my desk all day today, plowing through the piles of paperwork that Curtsyland generates. Unfortunately, my desk is just a small corner in the back room, barely enough room for my computer. If it was even a smidge bigger, this bad boy would be holding my pen. The hunky hottie will also hold your business cards - a nice addition to any one's desk top.

We un-packed oodles of new ooh-la-la lingerie today! I am drooling over this Victorian Lace Bustier Set. I love the combination of the black lace over the green background. Believe me - this set will be the hit of the bridal shower! We've also started carrying a selection of thigh high stockings to use with the attached garters. Tres sexy - oui?

Brand new from Jessica Kagan Cushman, makeup cases that actually make sense! They come in 3 sizes and include lots of pockets around the inside to hold all your stuff in place. The outside is done in a heavy plastic - easy to clean and to protect the fabulous sayings gracing the front of each case. Sentiments like Sin is in Sweetie and Kiss My Royal Ass - The Queen Has Spoken and Contraband give these cases a bit of sass.

Also new from JKC are Totes with Attitude. Roomy enough to use as a gym bag - stylish enough to take to the office. These new bags are strictly black and white, each with a quirky crest on the front. I'm flying solo again today. Danielle told me this morning that even though she didn't feel great, she was going to try to come in this afternoon. WRONG!!!! I threatened that if she showed up here, I would lock her out. The captain has also had the crud and has been sent home by his commanding officer for the past 2 days. Last update, they're having a great time, being sick together in a small studio apartment...awww they're young - they'll survive.

Danielle is certainly going to have her work cut out for her when she returns. UPS man Mark, has kept up a steady stream of deliveries for the past couple of days. My favorite is this new flask. The woman's question of "How much fun can I have before I go to hell?" has I'm sure crossed all of our minds at one time or another. The flask even comes with a nifty little funnel for spill free filling.

It's been kind of a weird day at the store. Danielle is out sick and everytime I've started on a project, someone has walked in the door.

The title of tonight's blog, you will note, is One Undone. That is the name of my son, Josh's band and they are playing a gig tonight at the Comet Tavern (922 East Pike Street) in Capital Hill. Everybody has them, days you can't concentrate on your work no matter what you do. Times like that call for a bit of desk top fun. Brand new at Curtsyland are these fabulous diversions - mini roulette wheel and desk top Foosball! Just imagine the hours you can distract your mind from the latest presentation that you are not at all into (at least not today). For a bit of Vegas style entertainment, the roulette set comes in a portable silver case and includes a mini wheel, two mini silver balls, a roulette board and magnetic game pieces in silver and black. The Foosball set is just like the it's full size cousin. I foresee a bit of office competition in the offing, perhaps the accounting dept versus the sales staff?

This is the time of year for Girls Nite Out. Bachelorette parties, 21st b-day celebrations or just partying with your BFF's for the hell of it! This pretty pink leather covered flask is just right to tuck into your evening bag and pass around in the limo you've hired to chauffeur you and the girls.

Glad to be back in the Pacific Northwest after a few days on the coast of Maine. My cousin is just such an amazing woman and I pulled out of her stories of her escape from Poland during World War II. Pretty fascinating stuff to be sure. Had a couple of lobster rolls while I was there, so it was a pretty fabulous time in my book.

They are a volunteer, charitable group and repair or rebuild homes at no cost to low-income homeowners, particularly those who are elderly, disabled or families with children.

We received a new shipment of glitter goodness today from Deux Lux. I have it all layed out on the back counter right now after unpacking it...absolute delicious eye candy ;) Deux Lux makes fantastic wallets, cosmetic cases, coin pouches, etc in the most glittery glitter fabric imaginable. New items include a flat card holder...perfect for slipping in a clutch when going out. It has room for a few credit cards & an i.d. on one side, cash & coins on the other. We also received cosmetic cases...the standard shape which is perfect for travel comes in three different sizes, and a new cube shaped case is great for keeping in handbags filled with your daily beauty must-haves.

My favorite item is the new heart shaped pouch....yes, I said a heart shaped pouch!!!! (Don't be embarrassed if you started jumping up & down with excitement....exactly the reaction I had while at the Deux Lux booth placing this order.) And last but not least, a passport cover...which you know I will be flashing all over Europe this summer. The hardest part is choosing a color...gunmetal grey, gold, mint, merigold, moss, neon lilac, seashell pink, periwinkle...oh my goodness...

Of pillows & books

What a soggy Seattle day it has been! However...that means I got out of watering the flowers ;) I have such a black thumb...I love the pretty flowers, but feel just terrible when they have to be taken care of by yours truly.

Our spirits (Snickers & myself) were instantly lifted today when Marie Antoinette showed up...on a fancy pillow that is. A new shipment from Peacock Park Design arrived, makers of the amazing bamboo mats that will be featured in next month's Seattle Magazine. In addition to the Marie Theatre cushion, we received a cushion with a Carte Postale design, made to look like a vintage postcard.

Also from Peacock Park Design, hidden storage book boxes! They come in two sizes & two different designs. One design coordinates with the Tattoo Old English Alphabet bamboo floor mat. The other design is titled Sincerity, and features a poem written in beautiful script. They have a magnetic closure, and have a deep red lining. How fantastic to have the cushions on a leather love seat in your library, and keep the secret book boxes on the shelf stashed with a little flask inside....party for you & Marie!

...and Happy Cinco de Mayo ;) Curtsyland is officially three years old today!!! May 5th 2006 was the day all the divine times began....and have they been divine!!! Our absolute favorite part of Curtsy Bella is our customers...we have so much enjoyed getting to know you all and seeing your pretty faces (and handsome faces....and even the not so pretty ones) on a regular basis. You all mean so much to us and we would not still be around without you! We also very much adore the shopping part of our jobs....and we love when you love what we love....so let's keep this good thing going, no?!

Mom's Story

I lost my mom last September and this will be my first Mother's Day without her. I was so grateful to be able to spend a lot of time with her last summer. During that time, we played endless games of gin rummy and she would tell me some of the stories of her life. I wish now that I had asked her to write them down, as they have already started to fade a bit in my memory. My Mom: Her Stories Her Words is a book filled with questions about her life. Once she has filled it out, it will become a treasured heirloom, filled with her stories and memories.

Some moms are dedicated journalers, finding peace and serenity in the self exploration that writing offers. For those women, Her Life Journal, is perfect. Each page has quotes from remarkable women to spark her creative juices.

I'm heading up to Maine for a few days. My father's cousin's wife (I think that's my first cousin, once removed) lives up there. She's always been kind of a second mom to me and I haven't seen her for quite a while, so I'm excited to spend some time with her. Danielle has graciously offered to care for the Snick dog while I'm gone, so he'll be happy to be at home and not in a kennel. Son Josh is going to walk him every day. I'm one lucky, lucky mom to have such awesome kids!

Happy Birthday Curtsy Mama!!!!!!

Today is my most divine Mother's Birthday! She didn't want to take the day off....stinker...as she is going to Maine in a few days, so we have been celebrating all day here in Curtsyland. My brother Josh took her out to the Queen Mary Tea Room for lunch. Then he dropped off a petite dark chocolate cake for her & she graciously split it with me...but we ate too much and then felt sick ;) Flowers & teddy bears & chocolate were delivered....and of course there were presents to open! My mom loves experiencing new things, so Josh is taking her to a Brazilian Jazz concert at Dimitri's Jazz Alley...and the Captain & I are sending her off to go sea kayaking with Orca Whales (fingers crossed!) in the San Juan Islands. She is the best mom in entire Universe...Happy Birthday again Mama!!

The theme of celebrating Moms continued throughout the day with UPS bringing us shipments from Tops Malibu and Ms. & Mrs.. Tops Malibu....maker of our cult favorite Surprise Balls...has new Surprise Cornucopias. We have Birthday Cornucopias & a general Surprise Cornucopia arriving next week, but they rushed us the fabulous Mother's Day Cornucopias. A new shipment of Charm It goodies arrived this morning. I just love this line. All little girls want jewelry and we love to indulge them, but the reality is, sometimes they times lose their jewels, so spending a lot is out of the question. Enter the Charm It Line of charms and bracelets. One of our most popular gifts for young fashionistas, we have a great selection of charms and the bracelets to attach them to. Grandmas and Grandpas especially love them as they can give a new charm for each special occasion. I had a mother and her young daughter in last week buying a bracelet and charm. Their plan was as the child completed certain agreed upon tasks and projects, that she would be able to pick out a new addition to her bracelet to celebrate her accomplishment.

Cupcakes are all the rage right now. How cute is this new Cupcake Bracelet? It has the spacers, so that the charms can be added in between each sweet treat.

Mother's Day is Sunday, May 10th and the Curtsy Girls have gifts in all price ranges. Danielle gave me these Matchstick Gardens several years ago and I've been hooked on them ever since. Simple to grow, even for an apartment dweller like me. Tear out a matchstick, plant it tip first in soil and you will soon have a flower or herb garden growing. On the tip of each match are seeds already mixed to grow.

A shipment from the divine Bonnie Marcus Style Press arrived! I have been a fan of the line for a while now...all very fashionable invites, notecards, notepads, etc. Bonnie Marcus started the company while in her last trimester of pregnancy!! She was a wedding planner & event coordinator living in New York. She found herself custom designing invitations to all her events as she could only find traditional designs. So she launched the Bonnie Marcus Collection...where fashion meets paper. Having also worked in the fashion industry for a number of years, she teamed up with a number of fashion illustrators to make her paper dreams a reality.

In our first shipment, we received a selection of adorable mini notebooks for brides-to-be and their loyal bridesmaids. These bon bons of notepads have 80 sheets and are a perfect size to keep in your handbag...ready to jot down all the wedding-to-dos.

We also received a great selection of large, magnetic notepads. One sure to be a favorite with our customers is the Date Night - Notes for the Babysitter pad. It is fill-in style making it easy to leave all the important details. Another mom-fav will be the Note to School....I sure never got sent off with such a stylish note to give to the teacher ;) It has space to list why the little one is either late to school, will be leaving early, going home with, or absent.

My favorite design is for the chic hostess who has everything under control. It has an image of a dessert tray full of yummy cupcakes, and reads "Stressed is just desserts spelled backward." I also love the "Friends don't let friends go shopping alone" pad....so true!

I took yesterday off and spent the day walking. As I'm not a native Seattlite, there is a lot of the city that I've never seen. This past week, I was able to do 2 long walks, one beginning on Aurora and 75th and walking to Discovery Park and back and yesterday beginning at my apartment downtown and walking through the Arboreum to the store and them home via Eastlake. This city is so diverse and beautiful and I feel so lucky to live and work here.

Things were a little crazy at the store on Saturday! It was the Shop for a Cause for the Academy of Precision Learning. It was a great success and we were able to give the school a larger donation than we would normally be able to afford. If your organization is interested in participated, I am beginning to take reservations for next year, just send me an e-mail.

Two new items came in for the bridal section last week. Patent leather cases - one says Mother of the Bride and the other says Mother of the Groom. Wonderful little gifts for a bride to give to two of the most important women in her life. A nice keepsake for each to remind them of a special day.

Teeny tiny little princess feet deserve something really sweet to cover them. These Pearl Covered Baby Socks are just the thing. Embellished with a little bow at the heel, they'll make a great little gift.

Retro-a-go-go

I had a fabulous time in Arizona & already miss my best friend & her dog Jack oodles, but I am always happy to return to Curtsyland. Lots of goodies for the men's section arrived while I was away. Lots of love from Sailor Jerry & a shipment from a new company for us...Retro-a-go-go....which I am adoring...

They make frames, belt buckles, card cases, cigarette cases, flasks, etc with fantastic artwork. My favorite piece that arrived is the Sideshow Frame. I have always had a thing for old circus sideshow inspired things....normal is just too boring for this freaky world we live in - right?!! ;) Their frames all hold 4"x6" photos, and are made of pine wood coated with a black enamel finish. Then the colorful retro designs are coated in hand-poured, crystal-clear resin for a shiny and glass-like finish. Other frames we received include a vintage tattoo art style, and a Burlesque frame covered with authentic 1940's ad clippings.

The flasks we received fit right in with the vintage tattoo art frame & Sailor Jerry goods. I adore the Bottoms Up mermaid design....I've always wanted to be a mermaid. Other styles include a Destination Unknown with a pirate beer wench, and Hard Times, Hard Luck, Hard Liquor with a skull & roses.

We received a collection of card cases & belt buckles....all black & white with icons that look spray painted on. Designs include a grenade, brass knuckles, a gas mask, a spark plug, and a Mexican wrestler. All the cases are prefinished steel, the belt buckles are pewter, with the designs coated with hand-poured clear resin.

Earth Day...A Little Late

I know, I know, yesterday was earth day and I was thinking about our beautiful planet all day long, truly I was, just not when it came time to blog. Better late than never - right? We found Planet Saver Sacks when we were at the LA gift show. The totes are reminiscent of the famed Lichtenstein prints that we love. These fun and functional canvas totes are silkscreened with water based inks in beautiful downtown Los Angeles. The one pictured at right cracks me up , it says "I'm sorry Fred, I can't marry you and have your children...you don't recycle." You go girl!!

I have always taught my kids that they are responsible for their own happiness. It's a personal choice and you can choose to embrace it, celebrate it and share it. Life is way too short to be miserable and each and every day offers endless opportunities to live, laugh, love & learn. Be Happy is a great little book of inspirational quotes that will inspire the recipient to live every day to the fullest.

This Saturday is our monthly Shop For A Cause event. This month's charity is the Academy for Precision Learning. The Academy for Precision Learning (APL) is an independent, inclusion-based school serving children in kindergarten through 5th grade. They offer instruction to children of all abilities, from gifted to special needs, with a primary focus on instructing children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Curtsy Bella will donate 10% of our total sales on Saturday to this worthy institution. Please come out and help us support them.

Viva La France!

I think I've mentioned a time or two that I'm a Francophile. I love the country, the people and the culture. I studied French for many years when I was in school and used to be able to get around fairly well. I'm in the process of dusting off my very rusty French language skills for an upcoming trip this summer to Paris. I haven't taken a real vacation in about 10 years. Any free time I had, I used to go see my mom, knowing that her health was failing. As you know, I lost her last fall, so it's time for a bit of travel. I'm pretty excited to be heading overseas for some new adventures. Even more exciting is the fact that I'm taking both of my kids with me. I love the fact that they both live in Seattle and are my best friends. They're both so busy with their lives that it's a real treat for me to get the 2 of them solo for a little while.

New items in the store have me longing to pack my bags this minutes and hop on a plane. The Eiffel Tower Napkin Set will look so pretty on a spring table set for a Sunday brunch. A quiche, some fresh fruit, a bit of Brie.....manifique!

Of course you'll need some cool Paris matches to light the candles for brunch - Oui?

Project Runway

It's been a mite busy around Curtsyland today. As Danielle mentioned yesterday, she flew to Arizona this morning, so I'm manning (or should I say curtsygirling) the store on my own. First job was to pack up the un-sold Tarina goodies to ship back to the Sparkle Factory in LA. Between waiting on customers, it took most of the day. I was able to get my son Josh to cover the store for a few minutes while I ran all the boxes to UPS. I had just gotten back when a customer bought oodles of wedding shower gifts. I ended up shipping them all for her and she was just so thrilled to find out that we do that! We're always happy to ship gifts for our customers, and we charge you just what UPS charges us, no packing fees ever.

New activity kits from Project Runway have landed in the kids section at the store. The Design a Shoe Collection includes a sketch book that teaches the user the history of the shoe and allows them to design their own fun, fashionable shoe collection. Inspiration comes from different styles, heels and embellishments that are included in the kit. Any good shoe fanatic knows that beautiful footwear are works of art! The Fashion Design & Illustration Studio Set lets the user sketch and embellish fashion, handbag and shoe designs. It even includes the tools to create a set of swatch cards to use on future fashion creations.

I should be being a good, supportive girlfriend watching a Footy (Aussie rules football) match right now...sorry baby ;( I unfortunately didn't plan ahead with my packing...I am leaving for Arizona in the morning for a belated birthday celebration with my best friend!!! Big birthday shout-out to Curtsy Girl Heather as well...she will be celebrating come Earth Day!!

The Tarina Tarantino trunk show was a fantastic success!!! Curtsyland was a vision of pink...we had boys in pink polos serving mini pink cupcakes & pink champagne, pearly pink balloons sprinkled around, Curtsy Mama, myself and all our helpers wearing pink...and even Snickers was a sport letting me tie a big pink bow with a Tarina tag around his neck. Oodles of kisses & thanks to our fantastic helpers - Greg, Josh, Haley & Rachelle...xoxoxoxox!!! And a million thanks to the divine Trophy Cupcakes for providing the sweets!!! The mini cupcakes were absolutely beautiful and perfectly complemented the sparkling jewels. We absolutely can't wait for their University Village location to open!

Our new shipment of Tarina jewels arrived along with all of the trunk show goodies. Her new Spring collection is titled Electric Koolade and is to die for. (Although we only have a few pieces left as most of it got snatched up this weekend!! We can always add anything onto our next shipment though.) Electric Koolade is full of the most amazing, bright colors. We received flower pendant post earrings that are made of painted coconut shells embellished with crystals. The same pendant comes in a larger size on a necklace.

My absolute favorite new pieces that arrived are the large vintage resin flower rings...they are absolutely stunning. I snagged the pink one and believe me it hasn't left my finger since. I have had it less that a week and have lost count of the compliments I have received over it. We received it in pink, light orange, and light topaz. We also have the most gorgeous lace & crystal flower anywhere clips that perfectly complement the finger candy.
